“Quality Quality Quality!”
Reviewed July 16, 2014

I've visited Vatos a couple times during my current stay in Seoul, and it has been a real treat both times. The Korean-Mexican fusion menu is unlike anything I've seen anywhere else. You'll read about the kimchi fries from others, and they are every bit as good as everyone says--layers of fries, cheese, meet, kimchi, sour cream and chopped red onion, and a nice zingy topping. Very generous serving, plenty for two or three people. Don't miss it. The tacos are packed with all sorts of goodies, the right size so you can pick it up with one hand. (Best fish tacos this side of Newport Beach, CA, by the way.) A fun selection of beers and their signature "Vatos-rita" with a upturned bottle of beer or cider in a margarita will put a smile on anybody's face. Prices are very reasonable--the whole business including beverages and dessert for about $20/person. Make a point to seek this place out--Itaewon, exit 1, go straight until you see the KEB bank in front of you and turn up the steep uphill driveway just to your right. There it is. Friendly, attentive service and a lively youthful atmosphere make for a very enjoyable experience. Vatos has a great thing going here, and people have found out about it. Call a couple days ahead to make a reservation.

“Kimchi fries yessss”
Reviewed July 11, 2014 via mobile

Make a reservation to avoid the long wait. Because it's so busy, don't be surprised if the staff tries to rush you.

Best thing on the menu is that basket of kimchi fries. Yum. The shrimp tacos are also very good. The drinks are all comically large, so come thirsty. I like the makgeolitas.

“Smallest Tacos in the Universe”
Reviewed July 5, 2014 via mobile

This place is overrated. The tacos are so small and pricey. Koreans flock in big numbers there, and even some tourists, still i would not return.

“Tacos in Seoul?”
Reviewed July 1, 2014

What a great find! If you are visiting Seoul you need to head to Itaewon and check out this taco joint. I started my meal with chips, salsa and guacamole and I can honestly report that Vato's salsa and guacamole was wonderful. I had a veggie burrito and I definitely got my monies worth. The food was wonderful, fresh and tasty. Just a side note this place is packed with expats. If you are going to visit with a group make reservations. You won't be disappointed. I use to live in Austin and can honestly say that Vatos would be just at home in Texas, as it is in Seoul.

“Fusion at it's finest. So good.”
Reviewed June 24, 2014

I love Korean food. I love the idea of fusion food, which is basically taking an awesome dish from one culture and adding a twist to make it even more awesome. Korea does fusion well for Koreans, but the changes tend to be a little less awesome for some westerners. (eg. garlic bread with sugar, corn and sweet potato pizza with mayonnaise, or ham and yogurt or jam sandwiches) That being said, Vatos gets fusion done right! Our meal was an *amazing* marriage of Korean/Mexican/Texan/California style. From the salsa and tortilla chip starter to the kimchi and pulled pork fries, to the tacos, to the makolitas (MakKoli is creamy traditional rice alcohol, and when it's fused with a margarita, it's magical....and sneakily strong) everything was wonderful.

Tip: If you go on a weekend it's a good idea to make a reservation *at least* an hour in advance.
