“A small little place in the middle of Myeongdong”
Reviewed October 3, 2012

We were here for a weekend in Seoul.. one of the most expensive hotels Ive stayed at in asia but i guess that is the average cost for Seoul accom.

Accomodation was a tiny little box but it was smacked bang in the middle of the Myeondong shopping district! LOVE IT! so convenient to just walk downstairs and get everything you need within a few minutes walk. My partner and I literally had to walk over our luggage to walk to the bathroom haha..

check-in was easy. lots of restaurants to choose from downstairs. Go crazy with the shopping as they are sooo cheap! subway station is about 5 mins walk a cheaper and faster option then catching the expensive taxi.

Catch the express train from the airport to Seoul station and then catch a taxi to the hotel. Much faster and saves you half the cost.

We went during winter so it was blooody freezing! but very beutiful as it was christmas and i got to do my white christmas (bucket list)

MUST DO:

- The Palaces
- Seoul Tower
- Doota Shopping Centre (Dondaemung) at night!

I planned to go to Seoul in order to get my visa for Thailand. It would take a day to process. My wife and I decided to find the cheapest hotel for the night. After reading the many good reviews about J Hotell we decided to give it a try . . . Well we were shocked to say the least to discover that what was advertised as between ◆$20 - $40 per night, turned out to be ₩143000! !!!!!! No where near what I expected to pay! DONT BE FOOLED BY THE FALSE ADVERTIZING FOR THIS HOTEL.

All in all a nice stay with a comlimentary breakfast.

The best point of this hotel is its location, right in the middle of myeong dong. Subway stations are 3-5 minutes walk away, (euljilo-1-ga and myeong dong), so mostly everything is accessible. Namsan tower is also a 20 minute walk away; Gyeongbukgong palace a 30 minute walk away.

The rooms are small, but clean and adequate. The breakfast was pretty good, do not expect gourmet dishes. Best to be early.

To get to and from the airport, take the 6015.

newish hotel. small rooms and small bathroom. Hotel is centrally located in Myeong-Dong. You just have to walk out the front door of the hotel and you are confronted with lots and lots of restaurants and a huge shopping area. you get both big stores and roadside stands. would stay here again.

J Hill hotel is perfectly located slap bang in the middle of Myeongdong. Its rooms are clean and comfortable enough IF you book the right one (the 'deluxe' version). This is the one we'd booked up front but had to add two more nights due to a last minute change of plans. We didn't realise that the 'standard' double room didn't have windows and looked more like a broom closet than a hotel room. After paying a small premium, we switched to a room with a view over Myeongdong. The staff was friendly but not overly helpful; when asked for an iron, we could pick it up at the reception desk. When asked for an ironing board, they just said "laundry room" without giving further instructions on where to find this room. Overall our stay here was pleasant, but it's definitely not the most memorable hotel you'll find in Seoul.

Great location in the heart of Myeongdong with tons of shops and eateries around. Close to the airport limousine bus stop (bout 3 min walk) outside Ibis Ambassador Seoul which serves TWO buses to Incheon airport- bus 6015 and 6001. Attached photos of the bus schedules. To get to the hotel, once you alight at same bus stop, facing the road walk down on the left side, turn left at the next road (there may be an alley before that can't quite remember), walk all the way down past the police station in the middle of the street. It's a pedestrian only street at night. You'll be able to see the Hotel J HIll sign at he top of the bulding from afar, together with Seoul Royal Hotel sign. Hotel itself has a lift access card to go to your floor. There are maps of Seoul in the hotel lobby which are useful for getting around. It's also near Lotte department store where we encountered tons of other tourists shopping for duty free items, the souvenir and foodstuff shop is on the 10th floor. We bought our ginseng from here.
We took a deluxe double bed room with a window for more space but the room is still rather small, with space for probably only a moderate size luggage bag...we had to place our haversack and shopping bags inside the wardrobe cabinet. We stayed in June so didn't have many bulky coats or stuff...I imagine it might be a bit more difficult in winter if you have a lot of luggage. Room amenities wise, J Hill has everything you need- luggage rack, toothbrush, flatscreen LCD tv with quite a variety of channels, toiletries inlcuding disposable shaver, bedroom slippers, hairdryer etc.Loved that they give you 2 complimentary bottles of water each day. The remote controller for the tv is able to control the aircon and lights in the room as well..cool if you want to off the lights while still in bed. The toilet sink is in the same cubicle as the shower which is a bit wierd (it means that your sink will get wet if you shower) but we didn't have an issue with this.
Overall, it's a small room but we enjoyed our stay here...great value for money compared to other hotels in the area.
The only downside was that breakfast time is only from 7-9am which is rather limited. Breakfast was included in our booking but we ended up not eating it at all because twice we had to leave before 7 (once for the DMZ tour, another to the airport), and once we simply overslept and came down only at 915am. There are many eateries around though so that's ok. Try a chain restaurant very popular with the locals called Bongchu Jjimdak just round the corner (in the alley behind the hotel)...they only sell one type of dish (seasoned steamed chicken kind of like a stew, you can google it online), we enjoyed it very much, costs 22000won for 2 pax.
