“Very good, comfortable and simple to use”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 26, 2014

Very comfortable, friendly and welcoming, easy to understand (all the station names written in English also), the oral announcements are also in 2 or 3 languages (Korean, English and Japanese and Chinese - on the important sightseeing stations). The quick way to travel inside the city. The stations names (in Korean and English) are visible also on the screens above the entrance doors. I did not see the paper underground maps inside the underground, it would be wise to prepare it before - you can take it in the hotels and tourist information centers (like near Gwangwamun square or in Gangnam tourist information centre), but the big underground maps are everywhere inside the Metro on the walls. You can buy tickets (single journey) using the ticket vending machine inside the underground (in Korean, English and Japanese, probably - Chinese - too, because Chinese tourists are numerous in Seoul). The price is about 1 USD, without deposit, from Gangnam district to the downtown). You can also buy the tourist travel card for 7 days (3, 5 days also? - I am not sure - I did not use it) - for all the public transport - in the Tourist information center (Gangnam - for sure). When you leave the station - see the map to be sure of choosing the right exit (there are numerous, everything is marked by number and the site, for example - the bookstore, the museum, the University etc). If you buy the single journey ticket - do not forget to receive your deposit money back after your underground trip (the special machine for deposit return - near the ticket vending machines). If you need to change the line - you don't need to use your ticket - the way is free, everything is marked and easy. The lines have different colors and numbers. See the directions on the map to be sure of the right one.
The underground is very safe - double doors and no access to the train moving area. People are also very helpful and friendly. I had not any problems to find everything I needed. I did not use the underground on the rush hour - I've read it is busy like everywhere in the world.

“One of the best in the world”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 23, 2014

The subway system in Seoul is outstanding. You can go anywhere by subway, the fare is pretty cheap (less than USD 1), it's clean and punctual. When in Seoul, you have to take it at least once... it's all about the experience!

“Why can't other subways be like this?”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 23, 2014

Yes, I know it is a subway or a metro if you prefer, but the Seoul system has to be one of the most cost effective (unlike London) and easy to navigate (unlike Tokyo) subway systems in the world. It is just that simple if you are in Seoul use the subway end of discussion, but if I have to twist your arm remember this Seoul might have street names but most Koreans do not know them, so as a foreigner this can make using things like taxis annoying.
