If you are used to taking the subway/MRT in any city, the concept is similar. Although the Korean subway system is more intricate, the lines are color coded, and stations numbered; so once understood, it is fairly easy to use for traveling. English names are also provided together with their Korean names.

Ticket machines work in the same way as those in other cities, and come in English instructions as well. Tickets are inexpensive, and the trains are clean. But try to avoid the rush hour between 5pm-8pm as trains can get very crowded.

Getting around was a piece of cake. There are many apps for free to help (and you always have cell signal on the metro which blew my mind as an American). There's also a sweet song that plays at transfer stations. Pro-tip: Dance to the song and get weird looks.

Very efficient , clean & easy to use even for first timers in Seoul. The only thing I disliked is the number of transfers you have to make in order to reach some destinations. Also, if you're bringing luggage, it's very hard to go down & up the stairs because not all stations have escalators nor elevators.

The Seoul subway seems overwhelming, but the line and station numbering system is logical, and once understood makes travel simple. Just plan ahead - line number and color, station transfer numbers.
The ticketing machines are easy to use, prices are cheap, and the trains are clean.
