It is a lot like the metro in any city. With that said, the signs in the stations can be confusing. I have traveled the metro in several European and Asian cities. This metro is good in terms of the area it covers. It is not difficult to master, but the signs in the stations are not easy to follow. It took me a little bit of wondering around and in one case getting on a train headed the wrong direction before I figured it out With that said, it is a very affordable way to see Seoul.

The subway can take you mostly anywhere you want conveniently within and around Seoul City.

Once you master the system, it's fantastic. Wide aisles and great technology. The station names are all in English as well as Korean. Very cheap and frequent service.

The metro system in Seoul is very clean and the bathrooms are maintained on a regular basis. People are extremely helpful, and my only complaint is that the cards we bought would sometimes not work when trying to get through the gate. People would always help out, but it was a little annoying. There are some stops too, where if you need to change lines, you aren't supposed to swipe your card again, but you are to go to a gate and push the green button. It seemed very odd, but it may have been at stations that didn't originally have connecting lines. So if you accidentally swipe your card at one of these stops to change lines, it might deplete your card. Regardless, it is a great way to travel under most circumstances in Seoul, especially since many taxi drivers don't want to leave their part of town or take you across the river.

This train system is clean and efficient. One thing I noticed right away was all the foreigners on the trains. On a previous visit years before, most avoided the trains/subways. Public transportation is good in Korea.
