$159 as a special conference price in mid October. What we got was a small room stuffed with a double and single bed leaving no room to turn around in. The room didnt have a true closet, just 3 wall mounted hooks behind a door. The hotel has a serious cleaning problem that was first eveident by the hallway dustboards not being vaccumed. Our room had obvious soil on the bathroom door, the had an soap dish had an accumulation of soap on it, a bar of used soap complete with someone else's hair was left in the tub, drinking glasses that had never been in a dishwasher, an identification badge from a previous occupant found on the floor and the ultimate was vomit on the wall and floor at the head of the bed. We wrote to corporate and even included the pics we took and have not heard a thing back from them.

Dear. CathyB78,

First I want to thank you for taking your time to let us know in areas where we can improve the quality of our service. Your comments were becoming a big issue in our property. Respectfully we would like to double check with you, your comments and photo are for our hotel, because we found that some of comments don’t fit with our hotel descriptions and the photos you uploaded, we couldn’t find out those kinds of carpet pattern in our whole guest room and corridor. Please give us an opportunity to apologize for you with this issue personally; I hope that I could make progress for this serious issue for our guest service satisfaction.
I hope your understanding and cooperation.
Thank you.

Sincerely yours

Nice hotel either for a business or a pleasure trip.

Well located in town with good quality services: restaurant, swimming pool, shops, ....

Good english spoken by all people in the hotel.

Underground's station close to the hotel

There is nothing like being greeted by friendly hotel staff at the end of a long journey. Such was our experience at the Ramada Seoul Dongdaemun, just a few blocks from major shops at the Dongdaemun market. This is by no means a "fancy" hotel, but it is a very good one, especially for the price. The rooms are spacious, clean and well furnished. My only complaints are the lack of reading lamps and room safe. Breakfast is very good except for the coffee. Hotel staff members are very friendly and eager to help. I would certainly book this hotel again for our next trip to Seoul.

The good:
- friendly, helpful front desk staff
- room generally clean
- clean new carpet
- big, flat-screen TV
- good selection channels (incl. CNN and BBC)
- tasteful art work in the lobby, halls and rooms
- very comfortable bed and excellent pillows
- steep price, but relatively reasonable for Seoul
- coffee facilities and mini-fridge in the room

The bad:
- sterile, metallic-looking room doors, reminiscient of an industrial meat-storage locker
- small windows; no view
- walls slightly dirty and soiled
- small bathroom and shower
- water for shower is warm, but not hot
- erratic wifi in lobby (free)
- meager bathroom amenities; toothbrushes/razors for sale!

The ugly:
- hotel is not near anything (shops, restaurants, attractions)
- large structural support column right in the center of room
- dirty bathroom floor
- terrible lighting in bathroom (shaving in the dark, anyone?)
- internet charges of more than $18/day via cable in room (free wifi in lobby, but erratic)

Room tip: Try another hotel?

We booked 6 nights here after staying at the Ramada Namdaemun. I also reviewed it and much of the critiques of this hotel are slated against that one.

The location- it is on a really unassuming street. The views from our room were so/so, just of a small, dirty neighborhood. It took around 12 minutes to walk to the nearest subway station (which required transfers to get to Seoul Station, Insadong, Gyeongbokgung, and many other popular spots). It was also about a 15 minute walk to Dongdaemun shopping. It was a little bit of a let down because the website makes the hotel sound like its located across the street from the shopping district.

The breakfast- the hotel advertises free breakfast. It was alright, nothing fantastic. There is a very large variety of items but it seems like they just refill the food maybe twice during the whole service so getting there early (by 7:30) is required to get fresh food. The morning we left, my sister wore down a pair of the slippers provided by the hotel to breakfast and was refused service until she changed. Our bags were packed for the airport and it was extremely early in the morning. It was not a problem to go back and change shoes but there were no signs posted about it and others were wearing personal house shoes in the restaurant. It made me mad that after eating lunch there on several occasions and staying there for an extended stay that they refuse service for something so silly. They also play extremely loud music in the restaurant. It was really too loud for the two of us to have a conversation. It was a 10 track disc that just repeated so every morning we listened to "Video Killed the Radio Star", "Love Hurts", etc.. Ask them to turn it down for you..

The rooms- clean and decent. We booked through travelocity and thought we had two twin beds only to find out it was one queen. When we asked to change, they said it was unavailable. Our room was a little small (compared to other Ramada), but it was nice to have the laundry capabilities in our room as well as a full size refrigerator. The beds were comfy and the bathroom was very small and had little to offer- could use an update.

Service- The service was alright. Nothing really to write about. We had several bags (this was our last stop of a month long trip in Asia), and they helped us to our rooms with the bags, but then we carried all our bags to the front desk to check out and ask where the shuttle wait point is only to find out it is around the block. No one at the front desk offered to help the two of us get 6 bags down there which was very upsetting. At the other Ramada, the bus stop was directly in front of it. This hotel was unable to offer what bigger hotels in the area offer, only because of the smaller size of it.

All in all, I think I would probably return to the other Ramada in town for the price. This Ramada was a little bit clunky on all points and there was little to offer tourists wanting easy access to the city and main points of interest. All several occasions, we asked a cab driver to take us to the hotel, only to get in the cab and be taken to Ramada Namdaemun or have the cab driver ask us to get out because they didn't know where it was. They gave us a card to show cab drivers where the hotel was, but it didn't work and the only time we were able to get a cab to the hotel was when we had Korean friends explain to the driver where it was in Korean... which took 5 minutes to explain. For that alone, I wouldn't suggest this hotel.

First I want to thank you for taking the time to let us know in areas where we can improve the quality of our service.
Sorry to hear that your experience was anything less than satisfying. Your comments and issues for our guest service were addressed to all of our staff.
The issue for the music of breakfast place: Your comments of our music were a big issue during our morning meeting. And we will keep improve to our music system for the variety of customer preference.
The issue for the hotel slippers: We are recommending using hotel's slippers only in guest room cause of many reasons. One of reason is for the safety of our customer. But if we didn’t explain for a more complete understanding of you, I would like to sincerely apologize for you.
Luckily we are in process of placing airport bus within 6 month, but until that time our guest would be recommended going to another place 3 minutes walk from our hotel. I would like to inform you that our hotel will keep try to promote our hotel's location.
Once again sorry for any inconvenience you had while staying with us.
We will feel honor if you decide to stay in our property in the near future.

Thank you.
