A pleasant stay

3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Mar 6, 2012
Stayed there for 5 nights, friendly staffs, clean rooms, eggs & toasts breakfast, nothing more to expect with this price. It's just that the location is a bit uphill and might be difficult to find for the first time.
If you intend to take the airport bus #6015, get off at Namdaemun Market stop and walk back to hotel, here is a clip of youtube to give you some idea of the walking path. (so sorry that it's not interesting and the quality is poor.)

My wife and I stayed here for five days in April, 2011. While not easily found initially once we were booked in it was easy to find your way around. The hotel is within a 15 minute walk of Namdaemun and a similar walk time to Myeungdong. Restaurants, post offices etc are also within easy walking distance. The secret to staying here is to walkout the front door and turn left. After a short walk along a windy little alley you come out at the Namsan tunnel. Taxis pass by every few seconds and there is a turning bay just up from this pick-up point if you want to go back into Seoul centre.
The rooms themselves were quite roomy and the bathroom was enormous. If I had any complaint it was that cleaning of rooms was not undertaken at a set time - one day it was at about 3pm, another day at about 5pm. I would say that the rooms were generally quite clean.
Desk service was excellent. On several occasions we wanted to go to specific sites and the staff were keen to assist.
While I have read several comments about the limited breakfast choice (eggs, toast, juice, coffee) for the overall cost of the accommodation ($74 - $90, depending on season) who would complain?
Having stayed at 5 other hotels in Seoul I would say that this was great value for money and probably the most central to most sites (including a short walk to Namsan and N-Seoul Tower. Would happily stay again!

Room tip: Our room overlooked a hillside. Quiet and pleasant.

Stayed at this hotel for just one night on a quick weekend dash to Seoul. It took a bit of finding as it is quite a way back from the main roads nearby and my cab driver from the train station had to input the address into the GPS so its obviously not that well known to locals.

Central located though so excellent access to Myeondong shops and restaurants as well as the subway station at Hoehyeon. Also within walking distance to Mt Namsam and the cable car to the top. The concierge staff were ever so helpful and friendly and spoke excellent English. The room itself was large but pretty sparse and the coffee table and cupboards were pretty shabby with chips and paint peeling. The bathroom was very clean and they were proud to announce that all their towels and bed linen had been "disinfected" written on paper wrappers around them.

The bed was typically Korean probably too hard for some western visitors. I stayed on a particularly cold night and it wasn't really warm enough with the thin duvet that was provided. Breakfast was complementary and consisted of a couple of eggs, toast and cabbage cooked by a really enthusiastic lady in the dining room. Excellent internet wifi access throughout the hotel.

I thought over 100K won a night was expensive for the room but then Seoul is more expensive than the rest of Korea and it was booked online at pretty late notice.

We were very happy to find Hill House hotel. It was within our budget...we paid about $70 for a one night stay, a good price, especially for the area. Centrally situated, it is only a 5-10 minute walk to Myeongdong, good restaurants (mmm...street food, too), the markets, banks for money exchange, and the amazing subway. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was great-- super clean and the bathroom was ultra sleek with it's frosted windows and waterfall shower head. And the flat screen tv is ginormous!

Oh, and if you're into Starcraft, there's have a channel just for viewing the games. :)

Would definitely stay here again!

Hill House Hotel sits really at a small hill and narrow street. However, it is very conveniently located, 5 minutes walking distance to the subway station – Hoehyeon and 7 minutes to Myeongdong. If you like to walk, it takes about 15-20 minutes to Namsan Park where the famous landmark of N Seoul Tower is located. The ‘shopper’s heaven’ - Nam Dae Mun Market is also nearby.

The hotel has several steps to clime up before entering the lobby. Check-in starts at 3pm and check out time is 11am. You may store luggage in the lobby if arriving early, and sometimes you might get a room before 3pm.

I got room #103, which is at right side of lobby level when facing the front desk. There are total three rooms on this side and the other two rooms serve as office and storage room.

In room #103 there is a tiny space between the first door and the second door, where you can change shoes before enter the room. The room is clean and spacious with cheap wood floor. The air condition is centrally controlled and the temperature is just right at night. The bathroom is large; the glass wall makes it look even bigger. By window, there is a long counter providing good space to store things since there is no wardrobe in the room. However, there is a clothes hook and a clothes hanging bar in the room, together with few hangers for guest to use. Other accessories including: coffee/tea maker, big flat TV with most Korean programs except CNN in English, small fridge, toiletries (even shaving cream for male). The room comes with two free bottle of water each day. There is a king-size bed, hard, but good for my troubled back. Bedding and towels are clean.

Breakfast is included and starts from 8:00 – 10:00am; it is at the check in level. Breakfast is simple; toast, butter and jam, fried eggs – these are provided by a service lady; you pour your own milk and orange juice, tea or coffee; besides there are apples and bananas, as well as some salad. There is no limit for breakfast, eat as mach as you wish. The dining room was very clean and the simple breakfast was sufficient to get you start a day in the morning, very good.

Tip to subway, when you go out of hotel, first turn right and a minute later turn right again, from there the street is going down the hill (a little hill), on the way there are few small grocery stores and some restaurants. When you reach the first busy (large) street, turn left and about 2 minutes you will see Hoehyeon subway station. This is also the crossing path to get to the other side of street. And also the pass to famous big store – Shinsegae, where you can eat and buy everything,
