Hotel Sharden is a truly great, charming little hotel with an unbeatable location in Old Tbilisi. The hotel appears relatively newly renovated or constructed. The rooms are comfortably furnished, were clean and cozy. The service of the staff was very good - they arranged for a tour guide to drive my friends and I to Mtskheta and Gori which was excellent. They offer free and very good wifi as well as a good breakfast. Highly recommend this charming little hotel for an enjoyable stay in Old Tbilisi.

Good things about Hotel Sharden: the great location, part of the old town, close to the river and pedestrian sauntering streets full of cafes and bars. Its roof terrace bar is fabulous at night with close up views of floodlit church towers and surrounding mountains, including the statue of Mother Georgia. Reasonably relaxed atmosphere (we took our own wine up to the bar), and the pleasures of a small hotel in a 'real'part of town, Comfortable beds, a pretty good standard of housekeeping, and a door opening onto a wraparound balcony (views of other people's home life always fascinating), 24 hour key access.
Less good things - staff relaxed to the point of being lackadaisical, being charged about 4 Euros for a free tourist map, TVs that never worked (and I stayed there twice in different rooms). Underground, gloomy restaurant with a rather gloomy diy breakfast - instant coffee and a kettle, Small enough hotel to be noisy if there were extended families on your corridor, dodgy room keys and relatively small rooms. But I'd go back - it's a lot better than similar small hotels in, say, Paris.

In july we stayed with our family twice for three nights in the Sharden hotel.
During our first visit we had 2 (twin)rooms on the second floor, later we had 2 (twin)rooms on the first floor (104-106). Because the Sharden hotel has 14 rooms we have seen about a quarter of the available rooms. In this way we concluded that the rooms on the first floor are somewhat larger than on the second floor. Although the hotel is situated in the old city, the interior is new and modern, rooms have a.c., some have flat-screens and there is a lift. The breakfast is in the basement of the hotel, a tasteful decorated room with 4 tables (for 6 persons). Don’t expect a large buffet-breakfast like in chain-hotels, but we had choice enough including fruit and pastries.
Near the hotel you find a maze of stair-streets with very old houses and some churches. You can follow a guided walk through this area, see the plans on some houses along the Jerusalim-steet. That’s just around the corner near the hotel. Finally we discovered Tbilisi is a central location for some trips in the east of Georgia, including longer trips to David Gareja or Kazbegi.

Summarising our stay in this hotel: we think you hardly can find another hotel in this city with the same quality and advantages. As mentioned in other reviews, you can save your time in searching for another hotel with a better location or a superior view over the old city than the Sharden hotel. It is only a minute walk to the main street of the old city (Leselidze-street), the most terraces and the things to see in Tbilisi. Although we were afraid to find a hotel on a noisy location, the small street near the hotel is very quiet compared to the streets full of traffic near the hotels we have seen during a walk in the modern (e.g. the Rustaveli-area) parts of the city. Is there nothing to wish about the hotel? Yes, please, some more light(s) in the rooms....

Overall our stays were disappointing. We stayed twice for 2 nights on each occasion.
As reported by other reviewers the hotel is indeed excellently located near many sights, cafes and restaurants of the thriving Old Town. The Sharden has been well renovated and is in excellent decorative order. The roof terrace has good views.
Our bedrooms were comfortable but poorly laid out, very cramped and the shower rooms barely of minimum size. Housekeeping standards were variable, our beds was not made up properly on some days.
In addition our experience was spoiled by several incidents. Can you change a bank note for smaller ones? No! Can we extend our check out by 2 hours? No! Where are the clothes accidentally left in the wardrobe when we checked out? Disappeared! The not so security conscious night porter, whom we had never met ,offered us any key on the rack!
This boutique size hotel lacks the efficiency, honesty, friendliness and helpfulness that guests are entitled to expect.

The Hotel Sharden is a small hotel with only a dozen or so rooms but the management here is definitely trying to compete with large full-service hotels by offering a high level of service and amenities. Rooms are en suite with shower cubicle, beds are comfy with excellent duvets, and the TVs offer loads of channels in English, Georgian and Russian plus a few European news channels. There is also a breakfast room/restaurant in the basement and a rooftop bar with excellent views.
The best part of the hotel is the location right in the oldest and most picturesque part of Tbilisi. You are within walking distance of one of the prettiest churches, the synagogue, the Tbilisi baths and Chardin Street. In 15 minutes you can walk to the new city centre where the large Western hotels are, eg Marriott, Courtyard etc, where you can look at the unfortunate tourists and business travellers who failed to realise that they could have better accomodation in a better location at half the cost.

Fantastic hotel. Fantastic location. Fantastic staff. I stayed here with a group of 10 in October 2007 and I could not find fault with anyone or anything. The rooms were spacious and clean, the roof terrace has stunning views over the old town and the bar/restaurant in the cellar was excellent. Highly recommended for anyone going to Tbilisi (ps there is also a fantastic traditional restaurant just around the corner).
