Having just experienced the dubious soviet-era delights of the Hotel Kreschatik in Kiev [don't, whatever you do, even contemplate staying there], I was little nervous about what to expect in what I had been lead to believe was not-as-sophisticated Tbilisi.
What a pleasant surprise. The traffic is just as demented but the Old Town is quite pleasant.
Hotel Ambasadori is an attractive little hotel, with chic-distressed decor in the public areas. This gives the impression that it is going to be a boutique hotel, but the rooms are all furnished in fairly standard 4 star mode - no real individuality. Nevertheless, they are comfortable and well decorated and the bathrooms are well fitted out, with feature stained glass windows. There is a swimming pool on the roof and the breakfast bar, also on the top floor, has great views across the river.
The hotel is well located for the main cafe-society street which is just a few minutes walk away along the riverside embankment.
I can't comment on the restaurant as I didn't get to eat in the hotel - we were the recipients of wall-to-wall Georgian hospitality for the duration of our stay - but there are some excellent restaurants in the Old Town. particulary the Median.
All-in-all, not a bad little hotel in a very convenient location.
