“Having been to the Abanotubani, you can only then say you have been to Georgia”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 11, 2013

We rented a private spa for two hours, since it was our family and some friends. The private spa had two different mineral water pools - cold and warm, showers, private bathroom and a sauna. Also there was a room to cool off where at your request you can get hot tea. When we got there, we were taken on a tour and asked if we liked the spa. Yes, there are some minor things, as the door to the bathroom was not shutting properly all the way and the showers were not fancy, but one must keep in mind that these bath houses have been there since 4th-5th centuries. Everything else was updated and clean. 40 minutes into hour relaxation, we were asked if we wanted massages and a good scrub - it is 10GEL extra/person. There is a man for men and a woman for women. So everything is nice an proper. The 10GEL extra was really worth it! At first we thought that two hours is going to be too long for us, but in reality we barely finished our tea drinking at the end. There are also public spas, just for men and just for women and fairly inexpensive, but if you want ultimate relaxation, rent a private spa. The total cost was 140GEL.

“Must visit in Tbilisi”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 29, 2013

The Abanotubani is the must visit place when you are in Tbilisi, It is Located in the part of the old town, on the Bank of the Georgia's longest river Mtkvari. The Abanotubani is the historical place, it is the bath houses and literally it means the bath district in Georgian. It is known for its sulfuric waters and by the legend it was the place where the Tbilisi's founder King Vakhtang Gorgasali found the hot springs and founded the Tbilisi. It is open to Tourists for the whole year. Nearby on the walking distance are located other sight seeings of Tbilisi, as well.

“if you are not afraid of small infections... it isreally worth visiting”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 13, 2013

I was really glad to visit this place. I slept as a child after that. I think i didn't move even once that night. I was SO relaxed! So i recommend this place. We went to the bath without a name (locals usually go there), took massage (highly recommended!)

“The Bath has Mineral water”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 10, 2013

These baths (Other name I think is Shah Abbass Bath) were located in Old Tbilisi area. It has mineral water (which smell very bad). It is possible to rent a bath privately for one hour and use its mineral water. We decided to do that but unfortunately had not enough time and just visited it.

“Experience that you will never 4get... for sure!!!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 9, 2013

Based on review here on tripadvisor, we went with my friend to Abanotubani district to see, if it is really that "cool"place.. Yes the smell its there, but what else can you expect from sulphur water?? After entering the disctrict we choose the one "spa" that looks ok from the outside.. Because all the Spa-s are for general admission sitrictly separated - what a shame coz Georgian girls are very nice - and we did not want to share a bath with another 10ns of man, we dicedid to go for private "room".. The enter fee is arround 50lary.. = +/- 25 eur, and we did 1 mayor mistake.. we did not check the conditions first.. My advise, after you will see the photos and if you will still feel like going there, is to check the private rooms first.!!! Well, we were promissed to get private locker room, private sofa, privat showers and private toilet and pool... Well, have a look on those "private"things.. I am not snob, but i felt like i was in some cell and several murders has happend there.. anyway, coz we wanted to try the water, we enter the pool.. well in da pool was many of, un-indentifi objects... but we agreed that was from pipes from sulphur water.... yeee.. right :(
So anyway.. long story short.. I think its really experience that you will never forget.. we are still lauthing about it, when talking stories about Tbilisi.. I think the place has a lot of petencial, but it is just not there.. oooh and last thing.. Do not think, that if you see many ppl. going in and going out of spa-house, that means its a great place, or better place then another one.. Most of them will be georgians, that pay 1-2 lary just to have shower there, coz in old flats in old town of tbilisi, they may not have hot water.. PLease take my ref. as only one visit.. I am not sure I will survive second one..
