Nice place on the shore, opposing the Chardin, on the narrow renovated street, next to the hotel of the same name. Nice hall, great view from the cliff. Menu is more or less standard Georgian, food is also, more or less standard. Service OK, but not excellent - food is delivered in a strange sequence (hot appetizer 20 minutes after the main course). Famous russian salad (olivie) is as bad as anywhere across Georgia, veal in adjika is slightly better than average, odjahuri pork is not great either.

Excellent panorama windows are spoiled by the wide vertical window frames located exactly at the tables and wide horizontal beam exactly on the eye level of the seating guests - its amazing, how the designers failed to ensure the unobstructed view

By the general level of local places this one is at 70%, but in absolute scale its more or less 55%

Many visitors to Tbilisi eat here if they have a Georgian local friend who wants to take them out to a good Georgian restaurant. It sits on the somewhat high Metekhi Ascent, just across the Kura River of Tbilisi, on the opposite embankment from the Shangra-La Casino on the other more central riverside, on which a glitzy out-of-place casino stands guard over the cute little glass play-bridge that leads to the President's Palace. Don't be put off by the heavy and dirty road and gas line construction and torn up street on the ascent path, with many entrails of the underground street turning up mud on your shoes. This is just the discomfort of much of Tbilisi these days as it undergoes frenzied and syncopated renewal. You might have to tip toe from the taxi door to the restaurant door, to avoid mud, but it is worth the balletic exercise. While i was there with German and Georgian and Irish friends, a blond haired woman was singing Frank Sinatra songs in Georgian, with a small live band. it was not too loud for conversation, and i wish the many hundreds of other loud restaurants of Georgia would learn from this Old Metekhi restaurant, how to turn the amplifiers down! Again, maybe the best item on the menu is the Johannes berry sauce trout. There was also a large group of cheerful Chinese tourists eating here during my meal, including their Chinese speaking Georgian hostess. It was one of the Chinese woman's birthday. The whole table of them seemed quite pleased. With the food and the music and the atmosphere and the vodka. The large window paned back wall has some interesting views of the city.

My small tour group visited this restaurant twice on a recent trip to Tbilisi. We were impressed by the attractive ambiance, wide selections and generally very good food. On our first visit we were served by a courteous and attentive young man. The second visit had us being served by a competent but easily agitated young woman; her poor attitude was totally uncalled for and detracted from an otherwise pleasant evening. Nearly all our meals were very good or excellent and only one serving was of questionable quality.
