Is this supposed to be the restaurant where half of Georgian govt official guests gorge on their khachapuris and khinalis?

Having seen Lawrence Lessig and Vakhtang Khmaladze on their way out of the restaurant as we entered makes me think yes, that's the place.

What a disappointment.

Service was clumsy and spoke little English. They seemed genuinely surprised at the fact we wanted to order food!

It took us 10 minutes and three waiters to place an order.

English menu is either incomprehensible/hilarious (Sucking Pig, Boiled Kid, Fuchkcolia?).

Food rather bland, if overpriced.

Good live music, pleasant interior, I will give them that, but nothing more!

We went here on a recommendation. The surroundings are nice but the food was just OK and rather overpriced.

The biggest issue is that the menu, although in English, offers no description of what the dishes actually are so it took our table ages to order as without knowledge of Georgian food most people had to ask what many items were.

The service was also a bit all over the place with main courses being served at different times, one main came when everyone else had finished.

The live music offers something different but there are better places to go at cheaper prices.

Most of the top ten Tripadvisor restaurant reviews for almost any city we visit are tainted by heavily biased reviews from people who only ever left a single review. One day Tripadvisor will fix this and bring back credibility. In the meantime, we chose Maidan based on the other reviews here, it really did look like genuine feedback.

The welcome was friendly, they speak good English and the menu looked good. We were seated near the stage and looking forward to the local music (which was very good) but the cellar restaurant was like a wind tunnel every time a door was opened. It was about zero degrees outside and not much warmer inside. There was no heating and we practically froze whilst we ate our food. Every dish was spoiled by heavy over salting. Do the Georgians not worry about heart disease? The food was tasty underneath the salt but we both felt sick later in the evening due to the heavy salt in all the four dishes we ate. We had three drinks each (local wine and local beer) but were shocked when the bill came. It was almost 150GEL for dinner for two. Reasonable in other cities but extremely expensive for Tblisi.

Expensive, freezing cold and overpriced. Shame, the other reviews looked good and the band were excellent but we won't be going back.

I wish that we had known about the music, but there was none playing when we went. Granted, we went early on a Friday night, to avoid being in a smokey restaurant. The selection was terrific, and the food was absolutely delicious. The location is perfect, centrally located in the old city.

Of all the Georgian restaurants in Tbilisi, Meidan is one of my two favorites. I feel very welcomed every time I go there - management truly cares about all of their customers and, unlike The Shadow, everyone feels like a special client and not just a touristic commodity. The food is awesome and the energy is vibrant. I highly recommend it!
