I was booked into this hotel as part of a consultancy contract for an international development agency so I didn't know what to expect. The hotel exceeded my expectations, however, and I experienced a level of service and commitment to my wellbeing that I haven't found in pricier and more glitzy establishments.
The room was spacious, scrupulously clean and quiet (apart from the ubiquitous street noise you find in every city). At night it was very quiet. The bed was very comfortable with good quality cotton sheets and a duvet. Although it was winter when I was there, the central heating was very efficient. I was never cold. There were comfortable chairs to sit on and an adequate desk/ working area.
The shower room in particular was great - modern fixtures and a superb hot and vigorous shower. The towels were good quality white cotton, and they were changed daily. The toiletries were a bit basic but I use my own anyway.
What especially endeared me to this hotel was the way they took care of me. When it was clear that the continental type breakfast didn't suit me (cheese meat etc) they replaced it with cereals and fresh milk. There was always plenty of orange juice, an egg, cake, tea/coffee, water. They asked me if I wanted a cooked breakfast (English style) but as I am vegetarian I didn't take this up. I felt as though they were observing me and then working out how they could make my stay better. It was a great feeling.
In the area round the hotel are several shops that sell water, crisps, juice, chocolate, bread, etc. And the many small fruit stalls have great fruit at very low prices. You can live here on very little. Although I do not speak Georgian I had no problems making my needs known, and everyone I met was friendly and hospitable. I even managed to buy some plasters from a pharmacy. There are also four different ATM's nearby, but, beware, they don't always accept all Western credit cards.
It is true that the hotel is a little distance from the old town, but taxis in Tbilisi are extremely cheap (less than 3€ to the town) and plentiful. They can, however be a hair-raising experience. The hotel will call a taxi for you, explain to the driver where you want to go, and agree the price in advance. This is a good idea unless you speak Georgian or Russian. They also have a good business card with a map to the hotel on the back - very important as most taxi drivers don't seem to know their way around.
I would heartily recommend this hotel, and I would certainly stay here again myself. It left me with a good feeling about Georgia and Georgians.
