“Taste good but expensive”
Review of Rangoon Tea House

Rangoon Tea House
Price range: $5 - $20
Cuisines: Burmese
Description: Rangoon Tea House is a modern recreation of an old, colonial-era restaurant set in the heart of Yangon. The cuisine is inspired from that of local tea shops, whose traditions stretch back to when Burma was a part of British India when Rangoon was the second largest migration port in the world. That translates to the menu where you can find Mohinga, biryani, and chocolate samosas!

This shop is not for local people, especially for experts and tourists, foods are good taste but if compare to price, I feel it's not valuable to eat. For me, it's extremely expensive.

I loved this restaurant. The food is delicious and well priced plus the entire place has a trendy feel with excellent, friendly, beautiful staff. I try to live by the opinion of always trying new places on holidays but I broke my rule and had to eat at the tea house twice during my 4 days in Myanmar because it was so bloody good. The mango pork curry is amazing but the meal I can't stop thinking about was the Falooza for dessert - oh my gosh sooooooo tasty. If you are a tourist and want to taste top notch Burmese food in a fun and friendly atmosphere - go here!

We thought it would be a good place to take our visiting parents to for a nice quite lunch. We never bothered to go back. It's not a necessarily bad or expensive place - it's just incredibly boring, flashy and unappealing.
Everything about this place is confusing and unsettling. It's not really a tea house but a full capacity restaurant. Neither does it have any affiliation with Rangoon since the food on offer is either mostly Indian or uninspiring fusion of tourist-known local.
The interior concept would more suit an Italian restaurant rather than local. Again, nothing wrong with that but one is left wondering if they ended up in the wrong place. Every single furniture and decor piece is nice by itself but they were gathered into rather kitschy combination.
The food surprised me since the curries we ordered were Indian rather than Burmese. As a matter of fact I prefer the latter and would have chosen something else if only they bothered to mention it in the menu. Mohinga soup was bland and not worth mentioning. It also arrived after the mains.
The service was nice but the stuff failed to notify us that set menu we ordered already included soup, so we ended up with two bowls of soup each - the set menu soup and mohinga.
To be fair the people behind this place seem professional and have put a lot of effort and funds in it. But their lack of understanding the market and poor confusing concept resulted in this bizarre place I will not go back to. I'd rather wait till Yangon can offer authentic local food with acceptable hygiene standards
