We visited this war cemetery on a tour organised by our cruise ship, sadly we were not given very much time to look around properly. It is a very moving place with 27,000 deceased persons being remembered. The gardens and buildings are really well maintained when taken alongside the poverty in the area. It is in the middle of the countryside so be aware there are no toilets within a few miles!

For anyone from the nations whose dead are remembered here (UK, Canada, Australia, India, Nepal and many West African nations) this is a moving experience. For anyone else it is still worth a visit to see the well manicured gardens and the young locals enjoying themselves (we visited on a Sunday afternoon.) As it says on the Kohima memorial (same campaign; different place) ‘For your tomorrow we gave our today.’

This is another Commonwealth War Graves Cemetery - kept in pristine condition. What was of most interest to me was the variety of places the mostly young men came from - I found a Nigerian soldier, such a long way from home.

Only takes a few minutes to walk around. Lots of beautiful plants and the landscaping is well cared for. Very well done and impresses the gravity of the number of lives lost.

As can be expected at a CWG cemetery, it was a joy to behold. Beautifully manicured gardens with not a scrap of rubbish anywhere. It may seem odd to Westerners that Burmese couples go there to have their pre-wedding photographs done, not because of remembrance but because it is so peaceful, clean and tidy
