I went here to do the circular train. which is a nice 3-5 hour rid around Yangon. the train station itself is just like most other train stations with less regulations.

You have to go here if you want to catch a train somewhere else or want to take the circular route around Yangon (not a bad idea), but not sure I'd go here just to take a look around.

If you are in the down town area and have spare time it is interesting to see the railway station but do not expect too much. The original built by the British was destroyed in 1943 to stop the invading Japanese imperial army using it. Rebuilt in 1953 to what you can see today it is very Burmese in style and also quite decrepit. On the practical side it really is a gate way to Myanmar. As I say if you have time go and see it but set your expectations low and you won't be disappointed.

The place is the start of a journey for those who love to mingle along with local people and look at their life from within.

The first thing you notice when pulling up in a taxi is what. Beautiful building it is, but when you get closer it's a little sorry.
I can only imagine what the building looked like back in colonial days.
The gold roof would have been a sight in the sunlight , now it's a little faded and the building is not in very good repair.
The station clock no longer works and it reminds me of an old Indian station but without dirtiness.
The whole building is very large and would cost millions to refurbish.
There are two ticket offices in the entrance hall and the staff do try to help even though English is a little limited.
We got a ticket for the circular train (another review pending) but the platform information was none existent as we were told several different platforms only to be lead in and out of different trains and across the tracks until we got the one the locals though was correct.
Health and safety it's not.
Overall a tarnished old gem.
