“Interesting but nothing to see except the walls”

Aung San Suu Kyi House
Reviewed August 17, 2013

The gates happened to open while we were there to see the house in the grounds, but otherwise it's a walled property with wire on top. However, it stands out because of that, and because of its significance and recent history of the country.

This place is not worth a visit. It is just a very high gate and a closed door. Nothing to see, really.

Aung San Suu Kyi's house is in a nice neighborhood (where most foreign embassies are) and it is downtown Yangon. So it will not take too much of your time to go and take a look and get a souvenir picture of yourself by the gate. But fences are high, so you won't see much more than a gate and a fence.

There's really no reason to go to ASSK's house. You can't see anything other than a big ugly gate. It's difficult to get there. A big waste of time.

A fence, a closed (grey) door. That's it. Ok, that's Aung San Suu Kyi House, we all know the story, the great personally, the History. But frankly speaking, she deserves much better than a fence and a grey closed door. Still, buses packed with tourists stop there to make a picture. Why not... But why?
