“A nice surprise this hotel”
Reviewed April 17, 2014

We booked this hotel on line after reading trip adviser reviews and were very pleasantly surprised with an excellent value for the price. Actually I enjoyed the location, across from a hospital in a nice local neighborhood. They upgraded our room to a pagoda view, very nice and the room itself was spotless, big, with comfortable beds, TV that worked, all marble or tiled floors. Great sized bathroom with amenities. And breakfast was included which was not advertised, a nice typical buffet western and local foods. Staff were very pleasant and helpful
To get downtown, Scott market, China Town and the Schewdagon pagoda. The hotel offer a free ride at certain times of the day. And taxi rides to return are only $-2-3 dollars . I would definitely return.

Room Tip: Ask for Pagoda View

I stayed at Hotel Grand United (Ahlone branch) for 3 nights. I booked the room online and requested for high floor and pagoda-view room. The check-in process is fast and I got the room that I requested! I had the chance to enjoy looking at the pagoda from afar! The room is nice and very comfortable.
The location of the hotel is OK, few taxis are queuing nearby and the taxi fare is so cheap! They have flat rate for taxis! The hotel also provides free shuttle service to Shwedagon pagoda, Chinatown and Bogyoke market.
I asked for a late check-out because my flight back is at night. They gave my until 3:00 P.M. for late check-out.
The staff are really nice and friendly.

Room Tip: Request for high floor and pagoda-view room.

The staff are nice and helpful, we were upgraded to a nice room facing the pagoda.
The surrounding neighbourhood is good, though not close to downtown, but accessible by taxi or train and there're restaurants and shopping centers nearby.
The breakfast is great too! Lots of variety!

I stayed in the Ahlone branch for over 10 days, and found the staff and the management very eager and helpful, extremely customer friendly even with their language limitations. The restaurant staff too was very warm and caring, to the extent that a couple of them remembered my taste of beverages and had it ready at my table when I arrived for the buffet breakfast, which was a reasonably elaborate and fulling arrangement.
The hotel has leaflets printed out with suggestions of places to see in Yangon, following which I took a train ride to experience the city life of the locals, for which one of the bell boys who was leaving for home after his shift was kind enough to escort me. He was sweet enough to help me through with the ticket and also ensured I got on the right train for getting back to my starting point.
Clean, hygienic environment, pleasant and helpful staff, amenities like the gym and sauna and maintained well, dedicated wi-fi for each floor, all in all a good experience.

We stayed a couple of times for 2 days each, arriving and departing Myanmar. The hotel staff was very helpful although their English was very limited. The hotel is a bit out of town, but taxis are very cheap and the hotel has a fee shuttle bus service at limited times. Our room was on the 10th floor the 1st time and on the 11th floor on the 2nd occasion. The rooms were quite small and the bed very hard (Chinese style). We had great golden pagoda views both times (but no balcony like the promotion photograph).
Breakfast was quite acceptable with a good choice. The dining room was supposed to be open at night but was closed when we were there. The café on the ground floor was OK for lunch and snacks. Going to a reasonable restaurant meant a cab ride.
The bathroom was the weirdest we have ever struck. The shower was the bathroom which meant closing the door to take a shower. The toilet, sink, and floor were drenched when taking a shower even though there was a shower curtain which did not go down to the floor. The outlet for the water was on the far side of the bathroom so the water had to traverse the entire floor to run away. If the waste paper bin happened to be left on the outlet by the cleaning staff, then the water did not run away and the bathroom became a real bath.
However, would stay there again - but ask for a normal bathroom.

Room Tip: Ask for a Pagoda view on a higher floor - and a normal bathroom if they have one.

We stayed 2 nights in a superior room. The room was a little small, but the view was nice, and the A/C worked well. The internet was the fastest that we had in Myanmar.
The buffet breakfast was large and had eggs made to order.
The location of the hotel was ok. We had to take a taxi to the city center, but it was only a 5 minute ride. Hotels in Yangon are expensive. This was a good value for the money.

Pretty good place compare to overall picture of the city. Nice staff, good breakfast with a lot of varieties, clean room. A bit too small room size, but overall I'm impressed. Every staff was very helpful and willing to help, from the doorman, receptionist, up to the owner of the hotel.
