“Friendly Hotel in the quite part of town”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 3, 2013

Yangon is easy to get by and most business travelers opt for the city center hotels. But if you want some peace and quite Summit park view is the place. I have now visited the hotel a couple of times. Its right opposite a park an in a very quite neighborhood. Its just 15-30 minutes at the peak of traffic from most city centre offices and hence quite convenient. However when you get back after a hard days work you are away from the sounds and crowds of the city centre. You could just get out and go for a great walk round the park takes circa 30 minutes. Its just 15 minutes walk to the famous pagoda ( which is a must visit by the way - even for the business traveller).

The staff is very very friendly. They do remember you if you are repeat customer and thats a nice feeling. Rooms are fine. wifi works Ok with some interruptions you must learn to accept at least for the next year or so until all the TELECOM towers are in place. walking distance to some great restaurants. ( the food in the hotel per se is not that exciting) Chokdee Dim Sum just a short walk to your left from the hotel is one such place. The pioneer club again in the same direction is a great place for beer and music. The hotel breakfast buffet is nothing to write home about and if you stay for a coupe of days it becomes very repetitive. BTW taxis are very very cheap in Yangon circa $2 anywhere. the expensive thing is overseas calls and that you must avoid. Try to use viber or a like,.I spent $50.00 on two calls just on my way from the airport to the hotel. Most offices i visited and restaurants had wi fi and hence this was not a problem.

one negative is that the non smoking rules are quite lax in Myanmar and hence you would find guest smoking in the lobby. So the lobby is not a great place to hand around. Better to stay in the room until your pick up has arrived and walk down.

Room Tip: pre-book a non smoking room.

A big hotel clearly catering mainly for the tourist and conference trade near the park in which the main pagoda is situated, and of which some rooms have a nice view. Rooms are a decent size, clean and well-provided with a decent shower, toiletries, bath-robe, slippers etc. Some decorative aspects look a bit tired but the place is undergoing some (noisy) renovations (Oct 13) so will doubtless be smarter in a few months time. The bar is a nightclub in the hotel, offering pre-dinner 'happy hour' with gin-and-tonic for $4 for two: though excellent value, the concentration of gin can be rather variable.

The restaurant is perfectly nice, and all of the food we had was good, including a very decent breakfast buffet with freshly-cooked eggs. An evening buffet was especially good, and the set lunch can be excellent value. The only downside is that the cost of wine seems exceptionally high ($35 is the cheapest, and a local Red Mountain red wine we had had eslewhere for $28 and found in shops for $10 was, if it is the same wine [as it appeared to be] $66 at Summit Parkview). Beer may be a better bet.

Staff are helpful and courteous, WiFi free (as we found almost everywhere in Myanmar - some British hoteliers may care to take note !) and they seem to take security seriously. Money can be changed only at the in-house jewellery shop and is fine for small amounts (Reception gave us directions to find a bank, but we failed to find it).

Room Tip: Try to get a room with atleast an oblique view of the Pagoda

This hotel was nothing too fancy but there was nothing wrong with it either. Has a small but useable gym, fairly good breakfast buffet and clean rooms. Front desk staff were friendly. Seems expensive for what you get, but this is more a function of Myanmar rather than the hotel itself. If you want a smoke-free room make sure to specify as they do have some.

THis hotel was one of the original hotels in Yangon, and now it shows.
They are starting to renovate, so be warned be prepared for lots of drilling and babging from 8amm to past 5pm 7 days a week.
If you like to use wifi be prepared to have to put the password every time you use your lap top or phone, very annoying.
If you happen to want toast for breakfast be prepared to wait unless its just warm bread you want. Like most hotels the toasters are useless you have to put your bread through several times to get a colour change.
On occasions i asked for poached eggs, and on occasions had to leave without them as 30 mins wait (restaurant not too busy) is just too long when you have meetings to attend too.
Make sure its an early start should you fancy a hot shower, the hot water ran out around 7.30am
All the above issues are minor ones but compounded over 8 days and after long hard days at work are an irritation.
On a very positive note the staff are very very helpful and nothing seems too much trouble (apart from poached egges!). The hotel goes to great lengths to ensure they all have a basic understanding of english. Some have a very good understanding too.

Room Tip: make sure you a re a long way from the renovation work

This four star hotel is excellent value for money. It is considered one of the best hotels in Yangon and yet a third of the cost of the two superior hotels.
The staff are all so very helpful. We arrived early and we were immediately given a room. We had to leave on a trip before breakfast and they offered and made up a breakfast box for us.
The breakfast was superb with both European and Asian food. The restaurant meals were delicious with local cuisine and extremely well priced.
A taxi to and from the airport cost between $6 and $8 depending on the taxi having air conditioning.
As of September 2013 the hotel (or shops in Yangon) did not take credit cards. Only local cash or US$ are used in Yangon.
We were very impressed with this hotel.

While both the interior and exterior look dated, the rooms are clean, fully equipped, as is the gym. Hot water flows freely, and the internet is stable. The bar has live music (60s/70s English songs), serves great "Myanmar" brand larger beer, and free flow tidbits. It is conveniently located near Shwedagon Pagoda, which is a must see when in Yangon, and the location of this hotel makes visiting this place at night a breeze. Located near to other hotels for more after hours activities. As I was on a tour, I am unable to comment on the price and price value.

Room Tip: View of swimming pool is not spectacular, and should not be a concern

Summit parkview was an excellent hotel, very clean room with air con and television! Breakfast was included in our stay and had everything we wanted! The staff are only more than happy to help with any request! A great location to the pergoda and a short walk to restaurants! Currently under renovation although we could hardly tell which can only improve the place!!
