“good location, price is high for the standard”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 25, 2013 via mobile

stayed there just a night on our first day in burma. staff were very kind and friendly, went out of their way to find us a taxi and locate the restaurant we wanted to go to (green elephant). we were able to change money at the hotel too (9,250 kyat per USD).
the hotel building itself is nice on the outside, since its converted from an old brewery. unfortunately the inside is not done up in a similar style - its just like any other budget hotel with cheap carpet, cheap linen, basic bathroom with cheap amenities.
they could make a bit more of an effort to know the local area better, ie have a few suggestions for nearby eating options to advise guests about, provide simple map showing relative location (eg i discovered the next morning that its actually very close to the Strand/ waterfront)
given the current hotel shortage in yangon i guess cant complain about the price, however i expected better for USD 70.
the one thing that was good was the internet, btw. wireless which worked well in our room (ground floor, behind reception, with a window overlooking the street in front of the hotel)
staying at classique inn on our return to yangon, also for USD 70/nite, hopefully the comfort compensates for the distance

This is a decent hotel in downtown Yangon. Based in a busy little street (the profile picture makes it appear to have much more character than it actually does) it is a mere 600m or so from Sule Paya.

The location aids in the exploration of the downtown area on foot.

We had a top floor "suite" for 3 people and it was a fairly spacious en suite room. The room had a double and one single bed, a minibar, closet space and a flat screen tv.

Being on the top floor, the room was awfully warm when we arrived on our first day in the afternoon. We almost switched rooms to a ground floor room because of the heat.

The AC was ok. But required prolonged use to really cool down the room. Burma's summers really are extreme!

Strangely, fans seem to be a rare commodity in Myanmar hotel rooms. And I am not sure why that is. The absence of fans means that the room is quite uncomfortable till the AC has really cooled it down.

We requested the staff for a fan and wonderful as they were, they gave us the fan they used in the lobby. It was all very comfortable after that.

As usual, we experienced excellent service from the staff, despite some billing confusion at an early checkout, the staff were wonderful, forthcoming, pleasant and very helpful.

Ofcourse its expensive at $75/night. But then you're in Burma and hotels are super super expensive (relatively) everywhere.

TIP - the restaurant next door will serve you in the lobby of the hotel. They have some decent food so do try it.

TIP - book your own taxi if you want to save a few dollars. The hotel taxi's are generally a little pricier.

Room Tip: Check the heat levels in your room. The top floor rooms can get very hot in the summer. If trave...

Stayed here for four nights. Spacious rooms with air conditioner. Room service every day. Comfortable beds. Right in the heart of "downtown" although you might want to consider staying somewhere near the Shwedagon Pagoda as many tourist attractions are located near there....although to get there from the hotel only cost ~$3.00 so i's still affordable. Breakfasts were only 2 slices of white bread and butter with some fruit - nothing to boast about. Good value at $65/night. Would recommend to other travellers. Wifi works ut is often slow and cuts out. If it's not working, ask the reception staff to pull out the plug and plug it back in - often solved the matter!

This hotel is located in a recently redone historic brewery right in the heart of downtown Yangon, only a block away from the overpriced Strand Hotel. It is very clean, with simple adequate furniture and finishings. The taste in decor is dull beige, but is inoffensively neutral. The building retains almost none of its historic charm, but at least was preserved - which is better than is happening with many great Yangon historic buildings. The bathrooms are tiled and OK, but have no shower stalls and the sinks drain into the corner of the floor. This is considered acceptable and normal in Myanmar, but not in places where perma-wet bathroom floors are frowned upon. The internet signal is weak and sometimes hopeless. It can only be picked up from the rooms nearer to reception. The rooms at the back of the building either have no windows or only a dismal alley view. The rooms at the front are far preferable, though none of the windows have clear glass. This is historically correct, but aggravating, as you cannot have the AC on and see any daylight. The staff is pleasant, but a bit helpless, as only one person speaks serviceable English, who has to translate for everyone. For example, the breakfasts are minimal - with tasteless noodles or white toast being the only choices. The waiters still don't understand the word "Toast." Compared to the other ripoffs in Yangon, this place offers reasonable value for the money, nice bedding and a good night's sleep. Not perfect, but far preferable to places like the Alfa - which cost twice as much. I rank it very good, given the competition in Yangon at this time, and wish that Trip Advisor had a "good" option between "average" and "very good". I would rate it average and a bit expensive compared to what one would find in Bangkok or Phnom Penh. Everything is relative. I was glad to find it.

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the front, unless you like windowless rooms or air shaft views. If you want inter...

Exceptional customer service from booking to departure. All requests were duly accomodated by friendly staff including a room with a view.

Price was very good value for Yangon, which is very expensive and pretty basic. Location was excellent and being woken by the morning prayers from the mosque across the street only added to the atmosphere of the trip.

Breakfast was basic, but served efficiently and with a smile. In any case, we were keen to try the other breakfast offerings in the nearby streets.

Room was spacious, clean and comfortable. Bathroom was a wet room floor, with reliable hot water and clean, new towels.

Would strongly recommend this hotel, particularly in contrast to those mentioned in guidebooks which were of a much lower standard.

Swimming pool / fitness centre rating - zero as there isn't one.

Found this place by accident via a web forum.
It's a great find. Clean comfortable rooms, interesting part of the city. Great local restaurant 2 doors down, ATM that accepts visa just around the corner. Lovely staff, especially the manageress who helped us plan our trip.
Great value rooms , clean, comfortable, wifi, flat screen tv, fridge. Big colonial building.

Highly recommend...

I liked this place beacuse good location to explore downtown. Be aware streets are dark at night and little way away for eating so bring a torch. AC effective , free WIFI good signal, hot cold effective shower, big room, clean but basic.
Staff a little awkward and missed wake up call so set your own alarm. Need to forget what you would get for $65 in Thailand this is Burma!
