We were traveling during a local holiday, so it was very busy. Interesting detail and experience, but no information provided.

Before this trip, the only other giant reclining Buddha I've seen is the one in Wat Pho. And apparently, this one is even bigger.

The size of the Chauktatgyi Buddha is impressive when you first see it. A shame that the structure of the beams make it difficult to get an unobstructed photo. The feet of the Buddha are adorned with over a hundred symbols and the far wall has murals depicting special scenes from the life of the Buddha.

I came here by myself and regretted I didn't have a guide to interpret the symbols and give a fuller story of the statue and its significance in Burmese culture and history.

As with all sacred sites in Myanmar, wear conservative clothing (no tank tops, shorts or other revealing clothes whether male or female) and prepare to go barefoot (no socks allowed). There is a check-in counter for footwear for a minimal donation.

Above all, exercise respect towards the locals who are there to worship.

We visited this statue in the early evening when it was not too crowded . The statue itself is monumental and the various ornaments and other devotional relics surrounding the site are interesting . The scenery outside the builinding is very fine .

Walked the temples of Yangon and this one just wasn't one of my favourites - different likes for different people :)
