Great way to see outside the tourist areas but after hours of bumping and a 20 minute stop during a very hot day, I was ready to finish the circuit.

Thank silarem

Very interesting roundtrip around Yangon. I had possibility to see ordinary people and townships and a bit of countryside.

The Yangon Circle Train ride proved to be a sobering experience. This was meant to be a 3 hour train trip but was more like 4 hours. This train could possibly find a place in a museum of railway relics, was a local means of transport as well as a convenient sightseeing journey for tourists. It chugged around Yangon & the nearby countryside at a snails pace. This gave plenty of time for thoughtfulness on the events unfolding through the window. With the small handful of tourists, we were lead to a version of an upgraded carriage, which was cleaner and had small swivelling fans on the ceiling. The continuous stream of human activity in all its forms, was an insight into daily life of Yangon. Derelict, concrete, modern multi-storey buildings in close proximity to buildings from a colonial past. Surface mould, faded graffiti and broken waste of a undetermined kind, lined train stations, weathered blue tarpaulins strung from bamboo poles held up wooden shacks, homes to many. Detritus, human , industrial waste, wastelands of expended cars, piled randomly high. The track fringes became a dumping ground for masses of white plastic, dry clothes and grow crops. Waterways clogged with every bit of discarded human waste imagined. Framed by the train window, the overwhelming poverty streamed past without disruption. Plants synthesised with rubble and the occasional flashes of light, reflections of miscellaneous junk flowing onto track margins. Detritus & abandonment at every Breath. The odd flash of colour from umbrellas that shaded locals from the searing heat, selling their produce of vegetable and fruit. This train trip was more about experience than comfort and left a lasting impression of Yangon, contemplating brief images left behind by the obscurity of the past.

Definitely one of the highlight of visiting Yangon. The variety of people and vendors are very interesting.

Enjoyed my experience on the circular train. It's a bit of a slog for three hours, but stick with it and by far the best bit was the middle hour of so when the train exits the city and you get to see the countryside and all of the people moving their produce around.

Yes, there was a little curiosity from the local people with this strange British guy joining them on their local train, but I think most of them have seen it before a hundred times, which in a way was quite nice as they would just behave as normal and no problem me just sitting there, watching and being entertained by the ultra cute little children.

If you want to see more of Myanmar by rail, I very, very highly recommend the sleeper from Yangon to Bagan. You really get to see a lot of the interior of the country. I think that was the highlight of all of my time in Myanmar.
