This was a great way to spend a warm afternoon, the train was not crowded, so we had a seat the whole way with people comming and going, plenty of interesting chat and a good look at greater yangon. If you have the time I would recommend stopping at a market village and wandering around, it seems very few tourists do this and I'm sure it would be fascinating, we sadly did not have the time.

Yangon circular train is really recommended to see more about people and some basic waves of lives. It will take about 3 hours for one full round. But , you are recommended to get off at Insein station and visit around Market. Then , wait for another train of same direction and catch it up again for DaNyin Gone where you can see really basic people lives and biggest market for vegetables in Yangon. And then , take train again to go back Yangon with same direction or wait the train from another direction .

Enjoy your time by exploring local life.

Loved the train experience for the people and the commercial activity that occurs in the train car before vendors get off at a station. A one hour train ride was enough to get a sense of the big city, how people live, the diversity of the Myanmar people, and the various economic levels, etc. Go for it!

We tried this out as recommended online. A good experience indeed and you get to see the way of life of the locals. Go to the Yangon Railway Station, got to cross a bridge and proceed to platform 6/7 and we were guided by a nice old man who showed us the way so that we don't miss the morning train at 8.35. We gave him a some tips as a token of appreciation. The counter shows the sign- ticket sales for foreigners only @us$1 each. We were asked to write one name on the ticket without the need to show the passport. The officer even came out of the counter to hold the route map for me to take a photo. He then led us further down when the train stops to board the train, making sure we get a seat. (There are police officer/conductor etc seated in each cabin, marked by a thin rope, separating them from the folks). The whole route is about 3 hours and you land up at the same station again. It helps with the map cos you know how far you have been. 2 hours is quite enough but you see the outer Yangon if you take the full 3 hour ride. Especially interesting when the train stops at the market and you get sellers /deliverymen with all kinds of stuff! We got drowned in tons of vegetables!

This long hot 3.5 hour ride is a glimpse of real life in Yangon and Myanmar. Bring alot of water (at least one bottle per person) and be prepared for the whole ride - getting off mid way might not be the best option. You ride through suburbs, rural areas, past a very large prison, and a huge car junk yard (with cars of all sorts of vintages piled high) . People get on and off along the way. Everyone is very friendly and hopefully this doesnt get spoiled but the popularity. Vendors jump in between cars selling food. One you have chosen a car you are there for the whole ride unless you want to risk the very brief stops to jump off and run to the next car. Tickets can be purchased for USD1 on platform 6 - go directly to the platform. There is a timetable there and a hand drawn map to look at. The train leaves at different platforms and you will be told where to go.
