Sule Pagoda is in the heart of the old colonial city, right by Independence Square, so make sure you include it in any walking tour of this area. In fact, make sure you do a walking tour here, there is so much atmosphere to soak up on the streets.

Sule may not be as impressive as Schwedagon but it has its own charm - including a golden bird in which you may place donation and see it fly heavenward, aided by a pulley.

This one was close to our hotel (Clover City Center) so we walked over to it on our first day in Yangon. It was good to see this one before Shwedagon so as to build it up. While this was a quick little visit, we enjoyed it. There was a large park nearby and the architecture of the neighboring buildings were interesting as well.

You can get a little Pagoda'd out but this is a nice one to start with as its unique in that its located on a busy roundabout. There is a $3 entrance and they are happy for you to take photos. Its also easy walking distance to the Old Courthouse and Maha Bandoola Garden.

Another glowing, gold pagoda. Very worth a visit and easily accessed cheaply by taxi. Definitely one of the main pagodas worth a visit.

Knowing the history, the General lived there for only a few years. I would have liked to have seen more "stuff". The home is basic as there are only a few interesting items such as the general's library. However, if you respect Burma and the General's family, it is worth a visit. Architecturally, the home is large with Victorian gingerbread decoration. Unfortunately, some areas are falling apart such as the kitchen.
