“Decent Hotel, Staff Just Out of School”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 13, 2013

We stayed at City Center Plus. The hotel was nice although the staff seemed to be a little young. We found that most everyone was either in school or just out of school. They were accommodating and nice but we felt like they were friendly because they were instructed to be so not so much because they really were. Like they had just finished a course on being friendly in university. Anyway, it was a little overpriced but everything in Yangon is overpriced, so we thought it was a good value considering. The place is very clean and the rooms are very nice. We even had a good view. The WiFi was even pretty good. All in all, it was a good stay and, if it were a bit cheaper, even better.

This hotel lies in a crowded narrow ugly dirty street at the back of Traders hotel. The category is quite low, but the price is at the level of a 5 star hotel, you really feel terrible to pay 130 U$ for a stay of a real value of max 30 U$. During this period all hotels in Yangon, thanks to the sudden tourist boom of Myanmar, are overpricing their rooms enjoying undeserved profit, but without offering any improvement in service. The rooms of Clover City Center are fortunately clean, but the level is still modest. Internet very slow. Breakfast to forget. No facilities. Even the receipt issued at check out is not regular, without letterhead, printed in an anonymous piece of paper that a child could do better.

The hotel is located on a side street in Downtown Yangon, very close to the Sulè pagoda, markets and the train station. The hotel is pretty new and even though there is a lot of construction going around, it is surprisingly quiet from outside noises. Unfortunately the room doors and walls are thin so you an practically hear everything in the hall or adjacent rooms.

It is a western style hotel with airconditioned rooms, though do not expect huge rooms, the room is big enough for two people maybe three... Attached shower and bathroom. The staff supplies compolimentary bottled water for guests. Outside the hotel there are a lot of local places to eat where you can get a dish for less than 50c, i suggest you do not go to the western restaurants around as they overcharge (I checked a place and prices for a dish started at $8) compared to what you can get on the street.

Staff is very curtious and most of them speak english, those who don't you just converse in sign language.
The ride from the airport to the hotel is $7US fixed price so don't get fooled by cab drivers, price from the hotel to the shewdegong pagoda is about $2US.

The street near the hotel was very dirty and you had to navigate a lot of side stalls and people sitting on the road to get to the main street, however the hotel was your best bet value for Yangon. The room was relatively clean and there are unfortunately not many selections in Yangon. The breakfast room had an incredible view and the breakfast was decent.

Had read a few reviews before coming here, so kind of knew what I was in for before I arrived. The street that the hotel is on is really bad, however once you are actually inside the hotel itself it is pretty good. Reception was slow (but nowhere near as slow as immigration officials...) but helpful. The room is clean and everything worked well. I was surprised that the free wireless internet was so good - a definite benefit if you are here on business or want to keep in touch with the outside world. The hotel is located close to the markets as well as a number of pagodas. Aircon worked well which is a must in Yangon. For the price you may feel a little let down, however prices are out of control in this city right now...

I did a lot of research before booking this hotel largely based on reviews here. It was about what I was led to expect however I believe better value would be found elsewhere. Downside was the musty smell throughout the building, the unappealing narrow street with potholes, unappetising continental breakfast with awful coffee and the price of about USD$90 was way to high. Having said that it would seem most hotel accommodation in this city charges big premiums compared with other major S.E Asian cities. Upsides were the abundance of friendly young staff with good English, relative cleanliness and the central location. The bathroom was nice and air conditioning effective. The East hotel and Centre Hotel nearby would both appear to offer better value.

We booked this hotel through Agoda and paid around USD 100 per night for one twin-bed room.
My husband and I checked in hotel on 12 August 2013.
On that evening, the first time I used the shower to bath,( Before that we never touch the shower ) the shower that hung on the wall dropped down accidentally and hit on my head, it dropped on the floor and broken. I reported to the staff in the counter, they want me to pay 25000 kyats ( USD26)
for the shower. I felt very unfair and disspointed, I want to talk to the manager, but that coward manager just hide in a room, and ask the staff to tell me if I don't pay, he will charge the staffs.
What kind of person is he ? He is a coward !
I wonder if that day when I was hit by the shower and get hurt, can I claim for compensation ? Do I still have to pay for the fallen shower ?( It might simply hung there by the former user or the cleaner)
We doesn't want the staff to be punish, eventually we took the whole shower set and went to a shop to buy the same type of shower and fit it back .
We were unhappy with the rules of the hotel and the bad attitude of the manager. We stay there for two nights because we have paid 2 nights room charges through Agoda.
The next morning when we were checking out, the tall staff with little beard showed us sour face.
One of the taxi driver told us that we have been over charged. He told us that we can get a double bed room for USD 10 two streets away, that is street 30.
This hotel is just a very basic hotel in a very dirty street, the hotel is very expensive and yet the attitutude of the manager and the staff were so bad !
THIS HOTEL IS VERY BAD !
NOTHING GOOD ABOUT THIS HOTEL TO SHARE !!!!!

Room Tip: Do not book this hotel, just go to street 30 ( two street away ), you can get a cheap hotel in the c...
