The Golden Guest Inn Yangon is more than a tourist experience, it is a slice of "old Burma" as well as being a delightful and very comfortable "home" in Yangon. An old style villa, in its own garden, the hotel was the family home of the owners for many years and it has all the warmth and hospitality that this implies. The reasonably priced rooms with efficient air conditioning are large, with gorgeous wooden floors and high ceilings. They are spotlessly clean. Mr Khin a practising medical doctor, who runs the Inn with his sister, speaks mother tongue English and is very responsive and charming in responding to all questions and needs. The room comes with a very hearty English breakfast which you order the night before. The free Wifi connection is efficient and works well in all areas of the hotel. There are lots of traditional tea houses around the hotel, but for dinner, I recommend the Leo Restaurant which is a one minute walk from the the Golden Guest Inn. It is small, clean and friendly but most important, it serves very cheap and utterly delicious Burmese and Asian food. Be warned, servings are very generous. Mr Khin has the menu and will order in for you. He sets the hotel table for you, so you eat your takeaway at the huge hotel dining table! And the restaurant delivers free of charge. (BTW though the room fridge has water only, you can order in beer from the restaurant!). The Hotel itself is on the outskirts of the city, but this for my money is a blessing. it is quiet and secluded and a very cheap taxi ride away from down town. I spend my life in five star business hotels and this "Old Rangoon gem" is the perfect antidote to all those monotonous five star package deals. It is more like staying with an old Burmese family who are hospitable without being intrusive. I thoroughly recommend this. And if my description does not appeal, then please do go and pay ten times more for the tedious globalised tourist experience you'll find in Yangon's booming tourist sector in the noisy down town aresas!

Room Tip: The rooms in the annex at the back of the hotel are super quiet. If you like soft pillows ask Mr Khi...

In a city whose hotel rates are fast approaching the sky-high costs of metropolitan centres like Hong Kong, New York and London, mid-range travellers need to be quick on their feet to find deals in Yangon. The Golden Guest remains one such deal. Even from my first email contact (my midnight arrival left me concerned it might prove a problem for a small guest house) followed by the quick and helpful email response (they even arranged for a driver to meet me) reminded me of the personalized service that only comes from a family-run hotel. From fantastic breakfast spreads to the clean and quiet room (coming from Hong Kong, the ceilings seemed of cathedral height), I found the friendly atmosphere of Golden Guest Inn a delightful pleasure in the midst of bustling Yangon. Beds were a little soft and the water pressure could use a nudge, but these small concerns were eclipsed by all the good points. Despite its central location (equidistant between airport and downtown) the traffic noises fade the moment you enter the long laneway into its tree-lined grounds. Price-wise, it's one of the best deals going, and hearkens back the Yangon of yesteryear. I had booked for three nights but ended up staying here the entire week. That's how impressed I was. Two decisive thumbs up for this one.

I spent five days in this family-run business, which provides air-conditioned wifi-equipped rooms at reasonable prices. If you think access to internet is a basic necessity, and you prefer saving money for other uses in Yangon, Golden Guest Inn is one that you should go.
The hotel offers clean rooms with flush toilets, plus a bottle of distilled water every day, which you should find convenient to have in Yangon.
Last but not least, the hotel helps you hire taxi in Yangon and to other Burmese cities, at bargained prices. An excellent place to experience the hospitality of Myanmar people!

This is a great family-run place in their house, which was converted to a hotel years ago. The son and daughter who help run it have lived in Canada and in Australia, so they know what Western visitors expect in terms of amenities and service. Their English is very good and they were able to help us with air tickets on a holiday and several other things. The rooms are very clean; the breakfast is good; and the Internet (very important to us) was generally quite fast. The friendliness and hospitality were outstanding. The location is very convenient to the airport. The house is set back from a very busy street, which is interesting to see typical life in Yangon. The Shwedagon and "tourist section" downtown are a 20 minute taxi ride away (depending on traffic). Highly recommend.

Our stay at the Golden guest inn is phenomenal! Seriously, they have the best breakfast and Ted the manager does a great job keeping the place well maintained and clean. If I were to go back to Yangon, I'll definitely stay here again.

I have stayed at the Golden Guest Inn in Insein Rd Yangon at least 8 times in the past 5 years. I travel a lot and have stayed in many guesthouses over the years and I rate this guesthouse very highly.

As far as Yangon goes this is Guesthouse has a standard of excellence that is hard to beat. The staff are friendly and very helpful. The rooms are of a good standard and the breakfasts are excellent. Their rates are also very resonable. Wifi Internet is available and there are also Internet cafes close by.

The guesthouse is in a good position with restaraunts close by, and is a short taxi ride away from shopping centres. It is about a a 10-15 minute taxi ride from the airport depending on the time of day.

I have no hesitation in recommending this guesthouse to any visitors who are coming to Yangon.

Arrived in the evening to tables covered in laundry, the reception area under piles of paperwork and office clutter but a friendly welcome. We went upstairs that has security grating around it and could also lock up the staircase (a definite fire safety issue if used), windows were also barred. The room was old fashioned but clean. A tall clothes airer was next to a very old wardrobe and the beds had latex mattresses that, once you had sunk into the divit you had to virtually climb out. The bathroom was similar. Once we had worked out that you had to turn on the hot water, we realised that the squidgy was a necessary item to push the shower water to the other end of the bathroom where to toilet and drain were. It was the best drying room for clothes however.
The breakfast was ordered the night before and would be fine except my travel partner was gluten intolerant and allergic to eggs. Some boiled rice and banana was found by our very accommodating hosts on the second day that we stayed.
The hotel isn't close to anything as mentioned in some reviews and we had some very interesting taxi rides where the drivers had to ask a few people on phone and on the street to get us back there. The traffic can be really bad so plan on a 30 - 40 minute journey into the city. The bus was an option we didn't take - buses were jammed with people with a guy hanging off the side to try and squash a few more in. 100+ people were on most of the buses we saw that looked like 50 would be maximum.
The air-con was a god-send in 40degree heat but that faltered, as with the TV reception when thunderstorms rolled in and took out the power or reception was turned off.
For the price, in Yangon, it was a good option and the city is just beginning to open up more to tourism but a be aware of the unexpected.
