I have stayed at this hotel in March 2013. I want to say that service is very good, attitude of people who work there and own this place is very positive and helpful. I could trust them, though I have seen them first time in my life - and to have people you can trust in foreign country is vital.
Rooms are clean and large. Breakfast is always fresh and nice.
Location is very convenient, right next to the bus stop. Bus from there to the city center takes up to 20 minutes. Otherwise one can take a taxi - that is also qiute affordable.
I would stay there again if I came back to Yangon

This is a family business that is warm and friendly and the owners are very helpful with anything you may ask or need. Very willing to help and make your stay more enjoyable. Even down to the breakfast, which is very very satisfying and nice. Eggs, fruit, sourdough toast, butter not margarine, jam, muesli just to name a bit, last visit we were made delicious traditional Burmese style breakfast (on request), very nice .... we asked if they had marmalade and next morning and each morning thereafter we had english marmalade for our toast !! Nothing is too hard for them. We stayed here for two weeks this year and last year. We have no hesitation on returning to stay next visit.

The rooms have air con which seem new and the rooms are very private and the beds are very comfortable. They are cleaned each day and sheets changed and fresh towels are in the bathroom. The bathrooms are very good, some are smaller than others but they are all tiled, have flushing toilets western style, mirror, hot showers etc. The upstairs room at the back has a very English style pale green bathroom which is very roomy and nice with a huge bath as well. There is a fridge, soft drink and complimentary bottled water, tea coffee facilities. Pillows are great.

There are still some things that need attending to in regard to some areas of the appearance of the guest house but the management are very aware and are making much in the way of upgrade and improvement in safety standard and also decor. Ted was busy on our departure choosing colours for the outside of the building. Things are changing quickly in Myanmar... last year no ATM no Wifi but this year both are available ( Wifi at the guesthouse) and next visit I am sure there will be many more options in the guest house and the city as they are growing rapidly.

We will be returning... Great place, lovely family, great service... comfortable, clean.....

i stayed there for 10 days ! i had an awesome time there ! the room is quite large, the aircon is working pretty well (and you can leave it on while you're gone so when you get back you can have nice cold cozy room), the shower is pretty good, and don't get me started with the breakfast !!! the breakfast is super duper nice (plain bread/toasted bread/ french toast + scramble/omelette/harboiled/softboiled + any kind of fresh fruits)

the family who run the hotel were very nice, they speak fluent english, so you can ask anything about myanmar to them !

We stayed here for 10 nights and were very impressed with the accommodation. The room was comfortable and cool (thanks to the excellent air con) with excellent bathroom facilities. The hosts were very helpful and friendly and always went the extra mile. Breakfasts were very good, with a range of options to choose from, always served with fresh coffee and real milk. I would recommend it to anyone looking for place to stay in Yangon.

This place gets much more mixed reviews than it deserves, mainly because of the price. But as a regular traveller to Myanmar, I can wholeheartedly recommend the Golden Guest Inn as a pleasant, clean, quiet, courteous bed and breakfast - and decent value for money. Granted - $60 (what I paid for a night in March 2013) is steep by Asian standards, but accommodation costs in Yangon have gone through the roof these past coulple of years. At least the Golden Guest has a bit of character. It's housed in a early-20th-century British building - parquet floors, high ceilings and varnished wood furniture. The rooms are immaculate throughout - see my pictures - with comfy mattresses, fresh linen and towels and, crucially, brand new, silent air-con units. The parents-and-son team who run the place couldn't be more helpful. Son Ted is a former doctor who worked in Canada and speaks excellent English. It's well located for the airport (only a 15-min drive away), though you'll need to get your cab driver to phone ahead for the precise location. Insein Rd is a very busy arterial route, but the house is set back in its own plot and you aren't in the least bothered by the traffic noise in the rooms. After experimenting with several inferior places in the same price bracket, I'll definitely be returning.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the first floor, preferably to the rear of the building.

I spent two nights there, and I quite enjoyed my stay there. The owner is very friendly, as the rest of the family is.

Don't expect too much in term of facilities, as this is relatively basic. This was however enough to have a good stay there: basic shower, air conditioning, bedding.

The breakfast was quite good.

This place is outside the city center, but it's relatively easy to use either buses or taxis for a cheap fare.

If you prefer more comfortable and better located places, it might not be for you. If you are more adventurous, and appreciate a good company, this place is great.

Set in a colonial style home set back from the main road, this guest house was a lovely relief from the heat of Myanmar. The owners were particularly helpful and spoke fluent English which was a bonus. The rooms need a lick of paint yet the aircon worked, as did the hot water shower which wasn't necessary, and the mattresses were very comfortable and the rooms were spotlessly clean. It's only a 15 minute taxi to the airport and a 15 minute taxi ride the other way to Shwedagon pagoda. If you're looking for 5 star, this is not the place. If you're looking for a comfortable base to explore Yangon then I would recommend this guest house to anyone.
