“Superb service and great rooms...but too expensive”
Reviewed November 22, 2013

I have no idea why hotels in Yangon are so expensive, ok maybe there are not many of them and demand is higher but still it is hard to believe that prices are comparable to Singapore.

The hotel is nothing special when you look at it from outside, the lobby is not unique either but rooms are very very nice. Super clean interior, very comfortable bed. I really enjoyed the room. All staff were extremly friendly and helpfull. I have slept in many 5 star hotels but never experienced such a nice and involved staff. Although the room itself was very expensive, over $200 (spent only one night in Yangon so it did not really matter) everything in the bar in the lobby was priced reasonably.

Despite advantages for longer stay I would not sleep in that hotel just because of the price, there is no other 4/5 star options at cheaper prices unfortunately.

Myanmar 101: for nice lodging, expect to pay two to three times what you'd pay elsewhere in SE Asia. The room and facilities are OK, but a bit worn and definitely not four star. Internet was slow. Location walking distance to downtown, but not a very nice neighborhood. Our room had a view of a crumbling tenement building across the street. Overall disappointing for $220 a night (without breakfast even), but that's the way it is in Myanmar these days. The hotel was very busy and just charging what the market will bear.

Room Tip: South side rooms should have a nicer view.

This is the type of hotel that doesn't impress you on anything, and I don't see the point of staying here for a romantic trip or long leisure stay in Yangon. It is fairly impersonal and will not give you excellent memories of something extraordinary. BUT, it all works, it is efficient, it is comfortable, you get a pool, you are not far from anywhere in town, and basically that's what you need when you come for business meetings like we did.

The Japanese restaurant is actually pretty good, maybe a bit pricey for Yangon but good food and good service.

I had been in Yangon a few years ago, and traffic is getting worse but cars are getting better. The hotel being in the center, you can still walk to almost anywhere and avoid traffic.

Room Tip: 8th floor is good

The best thing about this hotel is it's location - it's near to everything! It's a very effeiciently managed hotel - staff are mostly on the ball on every kind of request. The Club floor is very well managed; the lobby bar is a nicely run; the concierge team is very efficient.

I guess the attitude of the staff members are a reflection of how the hotel GM comes across - Ram Nurani, when he meets guests, genuinely shows that he cares and will do whatever he can to help.

Will definitely be back - no better place to stay when on business

Room Tip: Ask for a room close to the elevator. Otherwise, the walk to the room may be very long!

I stayed at the Park Royal Hotel for a week in early November 2013. The hotel is very nice, clean and safe. The staff are friendly and they speak good English when assisting with your needs. The employees at the hotel always seemed to be in a good mood and offered excellent customer service at all times. Several of the employees at the Royal Park were outstanding and should be commended for thier service. The employees (two managers) that serviced the complimentary breakfast and other were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast offered by the hotel was well prepared and everything seems to have been fresh. I also received great service from "Nyien," and another fellow whose name I can't remember. They both took the time to help me locate a Baptist church and helped me get transportation there. The safe in my room malfunctioned twice (operator error) and "Way Ooo" from the front desk reset my safe and very quickly. I had a descrepancy with my laundry bill at the front desk and Ooo resolved that issue with the same professionalism and customer service I mentioned earlier as well.

Finally, the WiFi in my room was not very good and as a result I used the business center quite a bit. The people who worked there (Mon & El Nandar)were very understanding and often stayed late until I completed my work.

My overall experience at the hotel was very positive however, I do have a few suggestions. I wish the pocorn was a little more perky, build a larger gym, add more WiFi spots and maybe create an outdoor cafe for reading or just relaxing.

Keep up the good work at the Park Royal as I look forward to returning next November for Holiday. I would also recommend this hotel to business as well as a traveller with a family.

AAL

In other times I have enjoyed the ParkRoyal in Yangon. It's location is good, staff friendly and helpful. However, it is currently under construction in what they tell us is a multi-million dollar renovation. THEY SHOULD HAVE TOLD US BEFORE WE CHECKIN IN. THEY SAID NOTHING. Lunch, in the Phoenix Court Restaurant which is replacing the Brasserie, is impossible due to the constant drilling noise below. I can see that the current guests are patient and willing to put up with the disarray but if you stayed when the hotel was fully functioning you know what you are missing. Another reason we came here was because we liked the themed buffet in the Brasserie however, it seems their chef has left and the replacement is still on a learning curve. There was no platter of fruits or local cakes in our room and not much hot water either.

I stayed for two nights and was blown away by the service and the extras provided by the hotel. The room looked normal but was far from it. Besides the usual platter of fruits, there was a plate of local cakes for the guests to sample. The mattress has recently been replaced and it was so comfortable, one wouldn't want to get out of bed! Everything worked perfectly, and the strong shower was especially welcome after a long day on the dusty roads. The wifi was surprisingly strong too.
There was a generous spread of international cuisine at breakfast, ranging from Myanmar to Indian to Japanese and Western food. Service was prompt and friendly.
There wasn't any imperfection at all during my short stay. Thumbs up to Ram, the GM! You have indeed done the Singapore brand proud!
