“Very comfortable”
Reviewed December 26, 2012

The Chatrium Hotel was a very comfortable base in Yangon. A good standard of accommodation but a few rough edges which is pretty common in places like this. The location is a bit away from downtown but the big pagoda is about 15 minutes walk and there is a lake/ nature reserve across the road which has numerous lanes which criss cross around the park. The restaurants in the hotel are OK and you won't starve. The pool area is nice and some big trees to provide shade from the midday sun. I would be happy to stay here again.

Stayed her for a couple of nights in late November at the start and end of a Kuoni Myanmar tour.
The rooms were spacious and spotlessly clean with good views over Yangon from the upper floors. Food was fine and served with smiles. Good choices for breakfast.
Good variety of international and local meals for dinner which were cooked individually and good value for money. Enjoyable with nice wines.
All rooms appear to be non-smoking, but despite the signs on the doors to the very small balconies saying they are locked, they are not, so it is possible to have a smoke on the balcony, but provided that one can cope with the vertigo while standing on an 18” wide balcony on the 9th floor!
All bathroom toiletries provided including toothbrushes/paste, razor, comb, moisturisers, facial necessities, bath robes and slippers.
Somewhat disconcerted by the advice printed near the lifts saying they should not be used in the case of earthquakes.
Cannot speak too highly of the helpfulness of the staff, whether reception, concierge or restaurant. This was particularly evident when my wife’s suitcase failed to accompany us from Bangkok. The concierge helped us make enquiries with the airline office and when it did arrive at Mingaladon (Yangon Airport) they arranged a cheap taxi to take us there to collect it, wait and bring us back. All through negotiation with a taxi driver outside who charged just £8 for the return journey of over an hour.
Can recommend that you do not accept the Chatrium’s transfer service from the airport, as it is $50. After reading up on the net about this, we approached the Golden Swallow taxi desk in Arrivals and within 2 minutes were away to the hotel for $12. We decided not to try to negotiate this down as it was going straight towards someone’s livelihood, and indeed gave the driver a $2 tip. The driver was pleasant with quite a lot of English and a somewhat battered taxi, but the whole experience as really easy, with no hassle from the other taxi drivers waiting outside.
Reading other reviews, perhaps we were lucky not to have any receptions going on in the pool area while we were there causing sleep loss. It’s a toss-up though, if you ask for a room that doesn’t overlook the pool you won’t get a view of the Shwedagon Pagoda.

Room Tip: Go for an upper floor not overlooking the pool to ensure a good night's sleep. Try to get on 9th...

This is1st We came to Myanmar, people's good. And this hotel gave me different feeling. The staff is always smiling, very helpful and so friendly. The food was excellent and we felt very spoilt in every way. We also had a wonderful, relaxing massage which we enjoyed very much. Bathroom little worn but good pressure of the water in the shower stall. Everything it needs but me has something the atmosphere missing. This is the breakfast excellent with a massive selection. Dinner was also delicious. To city center required you need a taxi (30,000 kyats). Park and lake directly opposite. Swedagon pagoda can in 20 minutes on foot be reached. One evening was in the park opposite a rock Festival with bad gespeilter loud music. There would be a room to the rear better been. At 23:00 but it was close.

We stayed at the hotel for one night at the end of Nov 2012 s. We had a very nice and worm welcome when we arrived. The room was very nice and high standard, very clean and with a nice with view of the lake and Shwegadon Pagoda.
The breakfast was one of the best we had during our trip with a variety of items including vegetarian choices.
The location is just great and close to the city attractions.
Unfortunately we had a very tight schedule so we didn’t have time to use to use the impressive swimming pool,

We went to Yangon this past week and stayed in Club Rooms Floor at the Chatrium Hotel Royal Lake Yangon. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The food in every outlet there ( chinese and Japanese and breakfast room) were all good with wide selection of food.. The snacks at the Club Lounge were also good. The only thing that dissappointed us was the shower . The shower was not so good as other 4-5 star hotels. The view of the Shwedagon Golden Pagoda from our rooms were truly amazing.

Room Tip: Should choose a room with the Shwedagon Golden Pagoda

We spent 2 nights in this hotel with a tour group. It is modern and comfortable. Like many newly available tourist facilities in Myanmar (Burma) it is expensive compared to surrounding countries in SE Asia (but not compared to major western cities). For example, we enjoyed a buffet dinner with a good selection of food and one drink for $30 a head - but we ate nice meals in Cambodia and Laos for around $20 for the two of us. (By the way don't bother with wine in SE Asia, it's usually pretty rough so opt for a beer or soft drink.) The major complaint we had was that there were loud functions around the pool both nights we were staying there, our room looked out over the pool and sleep was nearly impossible. The second night (we were getting up at 4am the next morning to catch a plane) we asked to be moved - the desk clerk assured us the party would end at 9:30pm. At 10pm the throb from the dance band was even more unbearable and we demanded to speak to the manager. He apologized, but, he said, the wedding was "of an important person" so, although it was supposed to end at 9:30 he couldn't stop it. He offered us another room, but we would have to pack up everything because they needed a room for a late arrival. By that time my wife had moved a stack of bed linen and cushions into the bathtub where she was getting some sleep, so I declined. If you stay there, demand a room that doesn't face the pool unless you like to stay up late.

Room Tip: If you want quiet, don't face the pool area.

I would agree with many of the posts here. We stayed in a club room but did not use the full complimentary snacks as we were out all the time. Jet lagged from the long journey we were grateful for the comfortable sleep and convenience of the hotel. Our visit co-incided with Obama's recent visit so this might reflect the type of guest there- the hotel was full of business people from around the world but particularly the US, Australia and Europe. It felt comparable to me to a Marriott - as a general rule of thumb. Large spacious and impersonal but provides a comfortable night's sleep and reasonable facilities

Room Tip: Ask for corner room for space
