With rich history and charming colonial decoration, The Strand itself is a masterpiece with its own character. I was spoiled by the team whose service during my stay was simply flawless. Thanks for the nice birthday cake.

We stayed at The Strand Hotel for two night and was an exceptional experience from the moment we arrived!

The rooms were flawless, with private butlers on every floor who made it their mission to personalize our stay and make us feel as comfortable as possible. The breakfast on the ground floor was probably close to one of the best à la carte hotel breakfasts we have ever had. The atrium and overall character of the hotel was something that doesn't come across every day and really blew us away!

With all the facilities you could think of, spa, restaurants, bars, in-room dining and a newly renovated pool and gymnasium I couldn’t think there would be a better place to stay in in the city.

Thank you for our fantastic stay and we’ll be back soon enough!

Dear Clemence V
Good afternoon from The Strand, and we appreciate you taking the time to review your recent experience on Trip advisor.

The essence of The Strand remains its people, who take great pride in the level of service and attention to detail that they offer those staying with us, and your generous comments regarding this are a reflection of their dedication and commitment to their duties, and the personal Butler service remains a firm favourite of those staying with us. The a la carte breakfast offers a wide selection of homemade pastries, freshly pressed fruit juices, together with a range of savoury and sweet dishes, and the menu is indeed a winner amongst all of our guests.
Our newest additions to the property offers the perfect opportunity to succumb to a little in-house rest and relaxation, and an afternoon spent beside the swimming pool is indeed time well spent.
Thank you once again, and we look forward to having you join us should the opportunity arise.

The renovation of the hotel is excellent (maybe bathrooms could be improved but it is part of the charm of this old palace). Excellent staff. Oustanding breakfast. The location in the heart of the city is perfect for long walks.

Dear GUVI2013
Good afternoon from The Strand, and thank you for taking the time to share your experience on Trip advisor.
The recent refurbishment saw The Strand return to its former glory, the focus of the project being to retain the character of the property, ensuring that the Suites remained as true to the original as possible. The teak floors, high ceilings and room furnishings were restored, although the bathroom amenities were left largely unchanged, which might offer some clarity on the issues touched upon in your review.
Our a la carte breakfast is indeed a winner, and guests are spoilt for choice with poached eggs with truffles and lobster being a particular favourite.
We trust the time spent at The Strand afforded you the opportunity to enjoy the warm welcome and personal touch we continue to strive to provide, together with the warmth of the Myanmar people, which remains the very essence of The Strand.
Thank you once again, and we look forward to welcoming you to The Strand once again.

A colonial beauty, this property was recently redone and it is spectacular. The rooms are luxurious, the service is fantastic and the food is amazing. You do have to make reservations for dinner at The Strand Restaurant, as it is one of the only fine dining restaurants in Yangon, but it is well worth it. The café is great for lunch and the bar is beautiful with delicious cocktails. The gym is small but has everything you need for a quick workout. The Strand is located in the heart of the city, it is a great location from which to discover this fascinating city on foot.

Dear OCoppinger
Good afternoon from The Strand, and thank you for your recent review on Trip advisor.
We are delighted that you so enjoyed your stay with us, affording you the opportunity to experience a hint of Colonial-era Yangon, and The Strand certainly is perfectly located to discover the history and architectural heritage of the Downtown area. The renovation project restored the property to her rightful place as the 'Grand Dame of Yangon', a feature of the city for over a century, and we were delighted that the original building and Suite accommodation were kept largely unchanged.
Our dining facilities and the famous watering hole of Sarkies continue to be popular venues for a little respite from the bustle of the city, and we take great pride in the level of service and quality of the items available on the menu.

Thank you once again for taking the time to review your experience at The Strand, and we look forward to having you join us once again.

I have a penchant for hotels with a colonial history (E&O in Penang, Majestic in Saigon) or those with a certain old world charm (Peninsula in Bangkok), all renowned for their service befitting the above-average room rates they charge. I am not sure if it's the low season in Yangon and the service staff can afford to be more attentive, but I dare say The Strand topped them all in that department hands down.

By my own unscientific and definitely not universally-recognised criteria of what good service is in a boutique hotel or resort in South east Asia that charges above US$200 a night, I would expect not to have to stand in line at the reception to be checked in. This is the only one which managed to achieve this among the rest I have mentioned earlier, and with a butler to serve every floor, I might add. I like how you leave the room key with him when you go elsewhere and he would open the door with it for you when you return. No need to worry about "Do not disturb' signs or housekeeping at inopportune times.

Perhaps I'm being a little harsh, but I'd expect hotels in that price bracket to serve fresh juices at breakfast. Thankfully, here they do and the coffees didn't seem like they came from a machine too. Though the menu didn't change, we looked forward to wake up to the staples like Egg Cardinal and the quality of the rest of the items on it during our week's stay. It inspired enough confidence in us to have the high tea and dinner here as well, which I thought were awfully good value.

We tried The Spa and the experience was probably comparable to the Banyan Trees and the prices not exorbitant for a 90 min signature massage at US$60, again for resident spas in hotels of this category. We didn't try the new pool as it was raining most of the time, but I'm sure it'd have been a welcome respite if we'd more time or better weather.

Personally speaking, Yangon got a little boring after the umpteenth Pagoda and the rain didn't help. The Strand was the highlight of our trip and its service standards will be our yardstick to measure that of other similar hotels. The 3 I mentioned at the start of my review have fallen short.

Dear Rusutsu

Good morning from The Strand, and thank you for your very generous review on Trip advisor.
It was with great pleasure to learn that your stay with us allowed you the opportunity to enjoy the levels of service, attention to detail and quiet comfort associated with The Strand for over a century, and we remain steadfast in our commitment in maintaining these same standards.
The mantra by which we continue to enhance the guest experience is one of quiet diplomacy and understated luxury, buoyed by the very essence of The Strand, the warm welcome of its people, in whom we take great pride and joy. The location of the property affords the perfect opportunity to relax and escape the bustle of Downtown Yangon, an oasis of calm in which to indulge in an afternoon High Tea, the gymnasium or a relaxing Spa, and of course the swimming pool, weather permitting.
We are delighted to learn that the levels of service and quality on offer met with your expectations, and we will endeavour to ensure The Strand remains securely ensconced as 'The Grand Dame of Yangon'.

We appreciate the time taken to review The Strand, and we look forward to having you join us once again in the near future.

Thank you.
