Inya Lake Hotel, Yangon
Ranked #30 of 163 Hotels in Yangon (Rangoon)
Reviewed September 14, 2013

Let's start off by saying that all hotels in Yangon are way over-priced. The Inya Lake is no exception. Until more hotels open in this bustling city, tourists are going to be soaked. It is the two and three star hotels that take most advantage of tourists, offering poor accommodations at ridiculous prices. The better hotels give you more bang for the buck, if you can afford them. The Inya Lake Hotel, built in typical monolithic Soviet style (a big block) by the Russians several decades ago has some old world charm about it that will appeal to those who relish things of the old world. Rooms are large and very comfortable, but furnishings and fixtures are from a different era. I found them very comfortable (wonderful beds and bedding), and I loved the liberal use of local wood and glass. Service is excellent throughout the hotel, and the lobby is definitely from a bygone, rather charming era. If such things appeal to you, you will like this hotel. I found it perfectly charming and comfortable and the lakeside location was beguiling. Breakfast was adequate but not on a par with those offered by the big newer hotels in town.
The hotel is located on Inya Lake, and is something like being at a resort in the city. The problem for those who have to go into the center of the city is the miserable traffic conditions that have popped up now that the government has reduced taxes on cars to the point where everyone can buy a car. It took us an hour to get to the center of the city in miserable traffic. On the other hand, it is easy to get to the airport from this location.
Once, some 30 years ago, the Inya Lake Hotel was THE place to stay in old Rangoon. If this kind of history appeals to you, you will enjoy this hotel.

Stayed in Inya Lake Hotel in Yangon for few nights on business trip. The place looks awesome from the outside with a huge shiny lobby, a huge garden and next to the lake. However, the standard in the rooms are very poor, service is mediocre and definitely need complete renovation to bring it to the standard it's pretending.
You will definitely find a better standard for a better rate in Yangon.

Stayed in Inya Lake Hotel 2 nights for business. The hotel looks like a palace from the outside with a huge and shiny reception hall, nice big garden and next to the lake. However, the service is poor, the room mediocre, not renovated from decades. From my point of view, you can get better quality for a better rate in Yangon

I stayed at Inya Lake for 5 nights, simply because it was close to my Yangon office. The hotel is currently (mid 2013) undergoing some refurbishment. Possibly to keep up with the newer International hotels that are coming up. The room i had was the old one. It was very spacious with a large balcony overlooking Inya Lake. Very nice. However, the furnishings in the room should have been replaced a decade ago. Hopefully you get the refurbished rooms when you stay there. The buffet breakfast remained the same in the 5 days i stayed. The phone in the room never worked and there was no other room to change to as they were fully booked / half the rooms shut for refurbishment. The staff were friendly and helpful but were simply hampered by out of date facilities and services of their employer (the burmese govt). Overall, not bad for a place like Yangon. Good value for money if you dont mind average service and facilities. The little massage place by the lobby provides acceptable service but possibly the cheapest massage north of Thailand !

Room Tip: Get the refurbished rooms !!

This hotel is located on Inya Lake which is about 8km from the city centre.

However, it is an oasis of calm in a busy city & it is easy to get a taxi into town. The lakeside rooms & gardens have excellent sunset views as do the seats outside the hotel bar!

The rooms may need a bit of renovation but they are a reasonable size. The staff are helpful and the hotel full of charm!! The service in the restaurant was excellent and the food good value for money.

I was lucky enough to stay during the Irrawaddy Literary Festival. which was great as it will provide material for my Cambodia Book Club Literature web site (www,.cambodiabookclub.com)

Yangon Hotels can be expensive but this was good value for money!

Room Tip: The lakeside rooms & gardens have excellent sunset views as do the seats outside the hotel bar!

The rooms are quite basic but have everything one would need. The rooms facing the lake are really worth trying for as the view is really nice (especially at sunset).Internet is available although quite slow (as per it is everywhere else in Myanmar).
The restaurant is good with a wide selection of food but the room itself needs some updating as it feels like a 1960s hall. The swimming pool and tennis courts are very nice although like the restaurant the pool could use some TLC. The hotel is quite far from the City centre and so allow upto 35 minutes during peak hours.

Room Tip: Choose a room that faces the Lake!!

Although quite promising outside pictures of this hotel, the hotel inside was really a big disappointed. Each time using the lift, I was wondering if it would not stop. The rooms and corridors are spacious but so outdated. The quality of the bed was poor and the bathroom also too old. The water pressure of the shower was very low. The staff is very friendly and the breakfast is OK. The bar facility and the Spa are both below level.
All over the hotel seems to be at least 30 years old. With big renovations, it would have a great potention.
