The last visit in Bhurma: 18 months ago. Inya lake hotel offers rooms for 50-60 USD/night. The offer: Run-down rooms with unpleasant and dirty gaps in the bathroom. Yet the former quality and colonial grandiosity of this hotel was visible. Wooden floors, tea rooms on every floor, a very fancy (!) lift.

This visit: The hotel isn't any better. Still a bit dirty. Still quite run-down. But they are charging at least 170 Dollar per night. And it's not worth it.
In another country you'd pay maybe 50 for it. Probably less.

Don't go, rather support a small hostel or family run business in Yangon.

Checked in in the middle of the night after the bad experienced from Yango International.

Booked from hotel website, more costly than travel website.

Very far from down town, at least 20 mins drive in all the old and shabby taxi.

My room was probably a junior suite, clean toilet, clean bed sheets and 4 pillows. Very thankful after coming from the horrible experience in Yangon international .

My colleague stay on the superior, it is surely poorer condition.
Breakfast was good, service was excellent at the hotel cafe.

Bellman service was good too.
Remember to change NEW , Crisp USD note to pay your bill.
Credit card charges add 6% to total bill.

It is rainy season now.
Taxi fare bargain for 4000kyak to airport

Stayed here in March 2012 on a business trip where we also booked the convention room for an event we organized. Room was dated but satisfactory, hotel staff were extremely helpful and smiley. Internet connection was however, a disappointment. I kept getting my connection cut off and everytime i asked reception, they mentioned that they need to wait for the IT guy to handle it. This was terribly inconvenient for me. Despite that, it was a nice hotel. The fact that it is beside the lake is a great big plus as one can take evening strolls. The sunset over the lake is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. Do not miss it.

Stayed at Inya Lake for 4 nights and had a wonderful experience. Extremely friendly and helpful staff! The hotel itself is quite grand, albeit old and unattractive from the outside. The beds were soft but very comfortable, the bathroom was aged but perfectly functional (excellent water pressure in the shower!), the buffet breakfast was superb.

It is outside of town, right on Inya Lake where many locals do their morning exercise before it gets too hot, so it is a nice quiet place to stay. At night you can see the Shwedagon Pagoda lit up in the distance. The hotel runs a shuttle bus into town at 9.30 each morning but you will probably find that you will be catching taxis more often than not. These cost 3,000 - 4,000 kyat (about US$4 - 5) each time and take about 20 minutes to get downtown (with traffic it could take about 40 minutes). It's worth planning your day so that you have few trips back to the hotel given the distance.

There is an Italian restaurant, L'Opera, right next to Inya Lake Hotel which is worth a visit. Great food and the garden setting is gorgeous.

A few tips about Myanmar in general -

What you've heard about needing crisp, clean US dollars is correct. Take $100 bills for changing into kyat but also take some crisp smaller denominations. Some places (for example; the railway line) only accept US dollars and can't provide much in the way of change.

When you go to Shwedagon Pagoda, carry your shoes with you. Otherwise you'll need to find your way back to the entrance where you came in, and also pay for them to mind your shoes.

Bogyoke Market is not open on Mondays. The National Museum is not open Mondays and Tuesdays.

Don't change money or use the internet at Inya Lake Hotel - you can get a much better deal in town.

Positive: Located along side lake means you can always expect nice breeze while sitting in the restaurant lawn. Alot of greenery surrounds this hotel. A decent size swimming pool, nice restaurant with pretty decent food options. Decent staff.
Negative: Very old elevators so please be careful while using them. You can expect very dirty water flowing from the taps in your bathrooms. Alot of lizards in the hotel (a couple I found in my room, though the staff will make sure that lizards are removed the moment you inform them).

Room tip: Make sure that you check couple of rooms at different floors before you check in. Floors are of different standards on different floors but charges are same.
