Decent, relatively modern hotel. Staff are nice and helpful. The rooms aren't well insulated from the corridor noise however and door-less bathrooms are just bizarre. no one wants to see that!

Decent location though to be fair.

East is in a fantastic location, opposite the Traders Hotel, a short stroll from the ferry terminal, The Strand and Chinatown, so ideally placed.
The staff are attentive and smiley.
The breakfast is varied and of good quality.
The bedroom ( we had a delux ) was adequate, with a safe, wardrobe, lots of windows and plenty of space.
There is wi-if throughout the hotel which is free and works well.

This is situated in the centre of Yangon and this is its major attraction as it is average in facilities and the restaurant is also only average. The newer rooms in the adjacent extension (separate entrance next door) are bleak and far from "Retro" as advertised. There was only one available electrical socket in the room and no lift to the upper floors making taking your cases uop hard work (there is a porter fortunately).
Probably OK for a short stay to recover from the journey but that's all.
The Trader's Hotel on the opposite side of the road is big and modern but of course more expensive with various restaurants catering for different tastes. The last night we stayed in the East a bomb exploded in the Traders so perhaps staying at the East was not a bad idea after all!

Room Tip: Avoid the Retro rooms in the extension next door. Eat out and the coffee and tea supplied in the roo...

The only thing going for this hotel is its location, which is good, and its staff, who are friendly and helpful. Other than that, it's really a dump. I cannot understand how it obtained or maintains a 4-star rating. The rooms stink, there is almost nothing to watch on TV, the shower drain didn't work, there is no gym, the 'gratis' breakfast is an embarrassment, and it is incredibly expensive for what you get. My advice? Stay somewhere else....

When we arrived in Yangon our agency had booked a room fot us in this hotel for two days. We didn't know what to expect and we got a key for room 704. This was a very small and poor room. After two day's we left. When we came back the last day of our holiday we had a room in the same hotel again. This time we had room 3004. These rooms are next to the general entrance. This time we had a beautiful room. This was clearly a superior room. So for room 704 I give an average/poor and for room 3004 I give a very good. The internet is not working in the room so you have to go to the lobby and over there it's still very poor. Breakfast is okee. Staff is very friendly. It's in the center of Yangon.

Room Tip: When you have a superior room then choose a room on the backside. In front of the hotel they are bui...

This is an older hotel in Yangon. One step outside the door is the very typical street scene of
City dwellers, market carts, rushing honking cars, small shops, street dogs, barefoot Buddhist
Monks.

The lobby offers a welcome break from this more busy scene. The staff is friendly, the breakfast bar offers a good variety, and the kitchen offers much more.

During my stay, bottled water was available at each floor. The Internet was spotty, but available in the lobby.

The rooms vary in size and feel, best to review if possible.

I would suggest this hotel to get a balanced feel of Yangon. If you are looking for 4 or 5 star
Western hotel and budget is not of concern- stay across the street .

I feel the best bet about East Hotel is the central location, opposite the Traders' Hotel. But, the price is expensive for the standard of their rooms. Do try to get rooms at higher floor if you wish to have a view. The bathroom, and the room for toilet are unique, and may not be suitable for stay between friends. The worst part of my experience is the front desk whom seem to be very disrciminative towards the Burmese. I do understand tourism is a big draw in Burma now, but for goodness sake, be polite to your own Burmese tourists as well. They seemed to be a bit sour on a personal level that there are overseas Burmese, and could not be bothered to answer to any of our questions. Never had the sort of attitude with any of the other hotels that I stayed through my trip in Burma.
