“stunning!!!”
Reviewed October 11, 2011

I have seen many temples, pagodas, budha statues all aroun Asia, but this one is MUST SEE!!! This is absolutely the best off! This place has soul. The entrance fee is small. You have to be bare foot, but this is common all aroun Myanmar if you enter budhist place. Lot of people was there, but not so many tourists. We have been sunday morning, lot of people took some food with them and ate with families in front of Budha statues.Lot of them prayed and took rest, even slept on the floor. The atmosphere is calming and very friendly.

“You've got to see it to believe it”
Reviewed October 8, 2011

This out-Disneys Disney. There's something both impressive and depressing about the multiple gilded stupas and pagodas, the scores if not hundreds of Buddha statues in well-lit niches, each with a "halo" of neon lights around the head. It is at once the most spectacular and vulgar display of religiosity. If it were not for the hundreds of Buddhist adherents kneeling and praying all over the complex, one would think it a gigantic hoax. There's something very Asian about Shwedagon: unstructured, chaotic, multifarious, and totally commercial. Here, thoughts of Richard Dawkins seem irrelevant.

The pagoda is so nice and wonderful. The surroundings are clean and the toilet is clean too. It has US$5 entrance fee. I had a great time.

“Magnificent!”
Reviewed September 23, 2011

It is big....beautiful...and made of solid gold. You might want to pay for a guide to bring you around since you might miss some "hidden" spot. You cannot see the shadow of the pagoda no matter what time you go.
