“Ok for short stay in downtown”
Reviewed November 18, 2013

The best feature of this hotel is it has a small restaurant which makes very decent food, chinese style. This proves to be very precious thing in Yangon, as it is not easy to find decent restaurants ( except in upmarket hotels) and you do not want to squat on roadside in the dark and heat as the locals. The room is ok, obviosuly 60 USD is a lot, when same quality in Bangkok you can get at 25 USD, but this is Yangon. Location is good as it is 10 min walk to Bogyake market. Taxi to airport is 7000 kyats. Staff is very nice and helpful, you can order the food to your room too. Sheets are clean, shower water power is good, sleep quality is good especially in higher floors.

Room Tip: Choose higher floor to avoid noise, yangonites wake up early!

The hotel is located perfectly downtown, but is still not a good choice. But ok - what can you expect from a two star hotel in Yangon?

My room did not have a window, and I don't think many of them have. It was small, worn and smelly, with a dirty air conditioner. It was blood in my bed, and that is really creepy. Actually, this was surprising, as the housekeepers were doing a quite good job during the rest of my stay.

If you want larger rooms, ask for twin beds.

A good thing was the shower. It's good and the hot water is not a problem.

The breakfast is still a disaster. Boring and close to disgusting, nothing else. You have to pay for the juice, only tea/coffee is included. I also had to pay for the phone call the front desk made to book a table at a restaurant for me. Ridiculous.

They offer laundry service, but you pay per item, not per kilogram.

For the price I paid (more than 50USD), I was disappointed. However, prices are rising fast on hotels in this country, so be aware.

I am not coming back to this hotel, but is there a chance for finding something better for a reasonable price?

For all those people who get themselves to the other side of the planet so they can spend as little money as possible and stay as meanly and cheaply as they can, this one's for you. That is, if 38 usd for a double room is your budget. The Chit Sayar appears unique amongst Chinese-owner hostelry in this town in that it is actually clean, and appears recently freshened. A rare find. Rooms have two (family rooms have three) single beds, ideal for clustering options and saving even more money. Furniture is basic, but not uncomfortable. There is air conditioner and wifi, and an actual shower in bath. Outside window in room is sealed and insulated to block out street noise, window on corridor side lets in some light. Good sleeping condition. Small-sized TV has a few channels, including espn. Situated on 'Merchant' Street, location is central downtown. Rate includes breakfast. A plentitude of hotels in Yangon newly opened, but not yet available through on-line providers, need to be on the ground to find them. e-mail on hotel's card is: csyhotel@baganmail.net.mm.

Room Tip: 3-bed family rooms face front street. 2-bed rooms in back quieter.

Located in the heart of Yangon's Chinatown, Chit Sayar Hotel is along the main road of Maha Bandoola. Orange Supermarket is just 5minutes walk away. The hotel itself has a Chinese/Thai restaurant - food is good. Prices are reasonable, although some specialty dishes are slightly more expensive than the local eateries (i.e. Beef stew, Eels, Pork knuckles). If you're lucky enough to bump into the owners, they can speak Mandarin.

The room & shower was very clean - in fact, the cleanest place I've stayed in my two weeks in Myanmar! Water pressure is good and water is HOT. They have their own generator, and which works very efficiently on the one night the power was cut.

There's TV (with Mandarin news and HBO channel) and A/C in the room, with a thermos for hot water (if you so wish). Price was US$23 for twin room ensuite (no windows). The only rooms with windows are the family/triple rooms (US$27) which windows open up to the main road. Breakfast included. For once there was at least 20+ choices for breakfast apart from the usual eggs & bread fanfare. You can opt for a variety of fried/soup noodles/rice. Or chicken porridge or teow cheow porridge (if you are Chinese like me and been eating Burmese food for 13days - teow chew porridge is a treat! Ahh.).

In the morning, if you walk out of the hotel, turn right (away from Sule Pagoda direction). The morning market is just minutes away. And typical Chinese breakfasts like chicken/pork/duck/offals porridge/noodles in the alleyways are cheap and delicious.

Sule Pagoda is about 15-20mins walk away. You can also easily walk to Nilar's Briyani Rice in Little India (recommended by Lonely Planet) (and yes! it is THAT good) just 15mins away. Bogyoke Market is about 15mins walk away. An absolutely central location, I totally recommend this hotel.
