Walkable (15 min) to Shwedagon Pagoda. Room clean with working wifi, for $60 it is still good value (considering hotel price in Myanmar doubles every few months). Reception girls on the first encounter can be warmer, the others are very nice.

Our experience at Winner Inn was pretty disappointing.
We spent 16 days in the country between Dec '12 and Jan '13 and Yangon was our last stop. We had planned our itinerary well in advance with most hotel bookings across the country. Our impression of Winner Inn turned sour even before we left for Yangon. I had contacted Winner Inn based on trip advisor ratings three months before our arrival. Initially they asked us to wait till Oct when the new prices were going to be announced. Once those came out they confirmed our rooms and prices for our dates in January. We agreed on $85 for a standard room with three beds. This was confirmed for us over email and for the exact dates we were going to be there in Jan.
Then 2 days before we arrived i got an email from them saying that they have raised their rates and now we would have to pay $105 per night for the same arrangement. This was pretty late in the day for us to change hotels as it was peak season and the hotel knew we had no option but to agree.
On arrival at the hotel we discussed how this was not standard practice. They were however pretty inflexible. Their explanation being that they had done their duty by informing us, and that in their two page booklet at the reception desk it mentions that the 'Management has the right to change rates'
Very poor practice.

Now the hotel is not that fancy either, so i dont think it was worth the price we paid. considering that we had much nicer rooms in other places (including bagan and ngapali) for much less.
Room was on the top floor and there was no elevator. It was a stuffy room and had a very old feel to it. The view was into the side of the building overlooking a scrap heap.

Breakfast was not a great experience. they had a fixed option list for you to choose from. so you only got noodles or omelettes. Very different from all other places we visited in Burma, where you either had a full buffet or made to order breakfast with no restrictions including plenty of fruits (as compared to the one small plate of papaya at Winner Inn). Overall service level was very poor, i felt i was at a bad B&B in Europe where everything is charged for.

The wifi in the hotel was very good. Location is also very good.

The worst thing of our experience was that after one night we had gotten bitten pretty badly. at forst we thought it was mosquitos, but then realised they were actually bed bugs. I just hope i didnt bring any back with me.

Hope this helps other travelers.

Thank you for your review. We are sorry for the inconvenience. Since then, we have changed our policies and now we guarantee that room rates will not change after reservation is confirmed. We have added 22 new Deluxe rooms and are in the process of renovating the old rooms which will be completed by October 2014. We have installed an elevator that services all seven floors. We are now providing complimentary buffet breakfast which includes traditional Burmese breakfast dishes, continental breakfast, salads and Burmese desserts. Thank you again for your review because this will help us improve to serve you better in the future.

After 10 days of travelling around Myanmar we arrived in Yangon very late (our flight from Bagan was delayed 2 hrs) and needed to find a room for a last two nights. We hadn't arranged accommodation before our trip as every hotel had responded with 'fully booked'. However, we managed to find something at each location without too much difficulty, taking rooms between $15 and $45. The Winner Inn was the first place we found in Yangon that had a room, but unfortunately it was the $90 suite. With 2 small children about to fall asleep we decided to splash-out and end our travels with something special. But what a let down.

Firstly there were no towels, so I asked reception who said they'd send some. In the meantime the kids fell asleep so they went to bed dirty. There was a kettle & cups in the room but no tea or coffee. I enquired but they told me to buy drinks from the restaurant. A cold drink from the minibar perhaps? Sadly no, they were all very warm. So instead we sat on a very uncomfortable chair & plugged in the iPad. The wi-fi worked OK but the plug socket was high up on the wall next to the light switch and was so loose the plug kept falling out.

In the morning we got a clearer picture of the room, which had a very 1940s look about it. The shower was a large tiled 'room', which reminded me of a Romanian orphanage where I worked in 1990. The curtains wouldn't draw open, but on pulling them back we were greeted with a brick wall, less than a metre from the iron-barred window. Breakfast was adequate, but not as good as many others we've had this trip, with rooms at a third of the price. And that was the problem. None of these things would have worried us if we were staying in a much cheaper place, but the fact that they were charging $90 was insulting.

Maybe the cheaper rooms are better, or appear better value, but the suite is certainly not worth staying in. We checked out after breakfast and found a bright new hotel down the road which was far better value - and with a stunning view of Shwedagon Pagoda too. Oh, and our towels never turned up, but we found 2 hanging behind the shower door.

I stayed at Winner Inn at the beginning and end of my trip to Myanmar. The staff was very friendly and allowed me to keep a piece of luggage there while I traveled, which was much appreciated. The rooms were basic but the wi-fi worked very well in both rooms that I had, which was great! And the AC worked well, which was good seeing as how hot and humid it was in Yangon. Taxis were easy to get and a couple places were within walking distance.
