I loved this place. Great location right in the centre of old Yangon. Right in the hustle and bustle of it all. bar across the road and lots of great street food close by.
If you want luxury, this simply isn't for you. If you want real Yangon, then stay here.
Also has free wifi which is a benefit

This hotel is great as a base in Yangon as it is central (you can walk to most places in 10-20 minutes), the rooms are spacious and clean, and the breakfast is a buffet and adequate. The staff are friendly and anxious to help, they do the standard things such as a cold drink on arrival, and the beds are excellent. The breakfast has a buffet of both Western and Eastern dishes, plus a man cooking eggs on request. The only thing I would mark it down on is that sometimes the breakfast gets a bit full so you have to try and find somewhere to sit; but the food is fine. Clean and reliable hotel.

Room Tip: Try and get a room on a corner of the building, then you get a really light room with 2 big windows.

Easy check-in, staff solicitous, sometimes overly so. Good wifi, air-conditioning effective. Bathroom good. The foyer is too cold perhaps. Good central location near Palaikywe Restaurant, just down the street opposite the Post Office.

Room Tip: Higher floors will be quieter. Ask for a river view.

This hotel is the most expensive that we stayed in in Myanmar and was by far the worst. But hey, that's Yangon prices for you. Given the over inflated Yangon market, this is probably as good a bet as any for your mid range money (£45 per night double).
Positives were very large rooms, fairly comfortable beds, a good breakfast buffet spread, nice (though not particularly knowledgeable) staff and a central downtown location.
On negative side rooms are very dark, blocked out windows, staff aren't great at giving advice on travel and the main sites and there are lots of pushy tourists staying here!
On an initial impression, it doesn't feel like value for money but if you start looking at other budget and mid range options, you will realise that this is actually a winner! Adjust your expectations for Yangon and you will probably leave relatively positive about this hotel.

Room Tip: Book on agoda as the rates quoted directly by the hotel are much more expensive at $100 a night

I stayed in this Hotel for 5 nights from 17 to 22nd of June 2013, when I arrived there the first day they gave me a very small and smelly room, after I complained about the room the next day they gave me another room which was very good room except the room was too close to another building and you can hear them when they talk. The breakfast was not good for the price they charge, and the worst thing I saw was the black flies all around the food area in the restaurant especially during the breakfast time the flies were just sitting on the food. Although I complained about it to the hotel's staff but no one did anything. I hope they'll take care of it in the future,.

Very centrally located, near to Sule Pagoda ( 10-15 mins walk). Hotel is clean ( at least in my room 1010). Good view from my room. All staff are fantastic and overly polite and friendly. They looked into my request or complaint immediately. Buffet breakfast is good with an egg station plus other local Asian menu. This is a busy hotel, so be prepared to face the crowd for breakfast. Overall, hotel is clean and it seems they are constantly doing up-grading to their rooms. Downside is- there is this unpleasant smell in the bathroom ( all the time) . And lastly, it is true, most hotels in Yangon are overly priced ! Anyway, I will stay here again .

Room Tip: Ask for higher floor and face the river !!

I use to travel to Yangoon for so many times up to 2007. During that time Panorama Hotel was USD25, Thamada was USD30, and Asia Plaza was 30. Those were the cheap old days when the might USD was equal to 1,200 kyatts. Now Panorama is over USD100, Thamada is over USD75, and Asia Plaza is over USD130. I went to Yangoon last March and the cheapest that I found was New Aye Yar at USD65 through Agoda. I almost cried because it is not worth the money. If the rate is USD30 per night then I am good but not this time. Now the USD is equal to 800 kyatts and your green buck buys less than before.

Hotel is way off down town Yagoon. Walk to the Bogyoke market is 30 minutes. Fifteen minutes walk to the river ferry fronting the Strand Hotel (you should see the inside of this British colonial hotel). My business was in town so I just walked around.

The hotel staff were not friendly nor helpful. Hotel breakfast buffet was found wanting. The room was close to clean but really looked aged maybe ancient. Airconditioning was good. I thought that for USD65 per night, the hotel will be slightly better when their rate was in the region of USD35 per night but I was dead wrong. But this is Myamar where anything can happen.

Hotels are very expensive in Yangoon which was a 180 degree turn when they were really cheap up to circa late 2007. Now the country is opening up to Western business and tourists so hotel rates are climbing up. Too bad, the rates do not reflect the quality of the hotels (exception are the 5 star hotels).

I did mentioned the Strand Hotel earlier. I had a drink there just to feel the ambiance. The bar was good with lots of western tourists. The menu pricing was reasonably western. Many years ago, the rate was USD25 for a gigantic room with a great bed. After a massive renovation, the walk in rate is now USD500!!!
