“An expensive prison cell but what you can expect in Myanmar...”

We were well prepared for expensive rooms that were well below what you would expect for the price you pay... These rooms were slightly worse than that! Especially for $30!!!

The crazy paving covering the walls, ceiling and floors aside - it is very very basic, very dingy and not a place you want to spend much time inside. On the plus side - location is good, wifi is included (when it works it is slow and doesn't work in rooms) and breakfast is really good!

There is a roof terrace bit it is not great - no air movement and too enclosed to be comfortable in the Myanmar heat...

If you've back packed in India then hotels like this will be familiar to you - bizarre, dated decor, dodgy electrics and plumbing, soggy mattresses etc etc. This is pretty much what you get nowadays for your money in Yangon.

On the plus side its in a good location, full of fellow travellers, they've invested in new AC units in the rooms and tidied them up a bit, the breakfast spread is pretty good and - unless you're completely mad - you're only needing to stay in Yangon for a night anyway, right?

I was desperate as all the hotels I had tried were full. My room, air con with bathroom was next to the laundry and had no ventilation. I woke with a dreadful headache from the mustiness and lack of air. It cost 30 USD, the most I paid anywhere in Myanmar. I stayed one night and would not go back. The breakfast was great if you looked noodles and condensed milk in the coffee/tea.

Room Tip: Try elsewhere

We stayed here twice. One night when we arrived in Myanmar and one night before we left Myanmar.
This hotel when we visited did not take bookings. we tried by email before we arrived but they replied saying it was not a booking. When we arrived in Yangon we called from the airport and asked if they had any rooms and they said no, when we said we were actually in Yangon and we could come to them now they said that maybe they would have rooms. We risked it and went and he took a key off the wall and we checked in so no problems.
The rooms are minimal and fairly clean, no windows but they both had a fan. The showers are an unusual experience with several pipes and shower heads and different levers, it took a while to work it out.
We were lucky as we were on the second floor, our friends were up on the 8th! its a lot of stairs to climb as breakfast is on the rooftop.
If you are a single traveler or even a couple this is a great place to meet others and as most do a fairly similar trip around Burma you can probably team up for at least a bit of it as it is an expensive country so being able to share costs of taxis and days out i.e. trip on Inle Lake will help. We started as a couple and left Yangon as a group of 5! and we stayed that way for two weeks!
After staying in other hotels around Burma this is probably one of the least appealing but it did the job for sure.
Oh and this place has decent wifi on the ground floor

Room Tip: You get internet in your room if your on the second floor

This hostel is well-located in the heart of Yangon's downtown area, its clean, cheerful and reasonably priced with (albeit not too speedy) wi-fi access.
But it's the breakfast that really sells the place. Toast with a plethora of interesting jams (the tamarind was my favourite), tea, decent coffee (in Myanmar this is a rare privilege), fresh, ice-cold tropical juice and a whole host of hot options (noodles, a number variations on the theme of egg and freshly baked wedges of crispy potato were amongst the offerings) are available buffet-style. It will set you up marvelously for a day's sight-seeing.
There's also a fine rooftop chilling area, with hammocks to lounge in and cheep, cold beers to buy. If you're looking for luxury, this is not the place for you, but if you're after a solid backpacker experience that will fill your belly without crippling your wallet, I would recommend the White House Hotel.

Can find better but it does the job. 30 dollars for 2 small beds, room with aircon and hot shower (no window). Archaic bedroom and bathroom but the room and bedsheets were clean. Can be noisy. Myanmar is an adventure !! Good Breakfast although very local.

This place is an example of a hotel that rests on its laurels after it gets listed in Lonely Planet. It was the last hotel I stayed in in Myanmar, so I was pretty used to minimalist rooms... but this place took the cake. I reserved a $35 room (a pretty high price for Myanmar) that was supposed to have hot water and air-conditioning. When I arrived they put me in a room with no air-conditioning and a broken hot water system. They said I must still pay $35 because it was a big room with 3 beds even though I was traveling alone. The room was pretty disgusting... dirty sheets, dirty floor, dirty bathroom. The beds had mosquito netting, but the netting had holes so mosquitoes found there way in anyway and buzzed my ears all night. The breakfast is ok, but not as nice as any of the other low budget places I stayed. Its a buffet with lots of choices, but, unlike every other guest house that serves you a fresh breakfast, you end up eating cold eggs at White House. Really, the breakfast is totally fine... but nothing to get excited about.
I loved my stay in Burma and every other guest house I stayed in was nice. The staff here aren't bad or unhelpful, but I believe this hotel has given up on trying to impress travelers. I would absolutely steer clear.
I checked out of White House after one night and ended up staying at the very lovely unlisted Chan Myae Guest House on Maha Bandoola Garden St. It was very clean and very cheap and breakfast was fresh and delicious.

Room Tip: Bring ear plugs so you can sleep through the loud speaker Monk chants at 4 AM.
