This is one of the cheapest places you can get in Yangon, at $20 for a single, $25 for a double as of Sept. 2012. For travelers familiar with Southeast Asia prices, this will seem high, but it's quite average for Myanmar. As a simple, budget hotel, White House exceeded my expectations. The breakfast, as many people mention, is phenomenal. It gives you a great sampling of local flavors and is served at a reasonable time, 8 - 10 a.m. I filled up on the breakfast buffet and would only need one more meal for the day! They have coffee, tea, toast, juice, and a rotating assortment of noodles, rice, guacamole, veggies and fruit. The atmosphere is very social at breakfast, so I would highly recommend this place to solo travelers!

It's not just the breakfast that kept me at White House. The rooms were clean and pleasant. The tiled floors and walls keep it cool, and the bathroom tiles were very clean and white. It's not luxury, but it's clean, and I appreciate that. The men at the front desk were always willing to give advice, arrange a taxi, or just chitchat while it rained. I couldn't have asked for anything more.

Room tip: If you're adverse to stairs, the lower the better! Otherwise, go high up to be near breakfast and the rooftop hangout spot.

It's hard to rate this place. On the plus side, the breakfasts were good for this price range (lovely banana rolls!), the staff were very friendly and helpful, but the place was not clean and the building did not have a chance against the humid air of Yangon during the rainy season. The whole place smelled of fungus, and everything felt humid: the air inside, the blankets, towels, and my clothes when we left. I had problems breathing properly in our room, and the place was not clean at all. The bathroom was very run-down and the shower hardly worked. However, it was a great place to meet other travellers, and the humidity problem may not be their fault as it was raining a lot and building in Yangon are generally not very solid.

I think the only reason people stay at this place is because they are mentioned in the wiki article on Yangon. The quality of rooms is pathetic, even for the low price.
What disappointed me the most however was that the people at the front desk were not completely transparent with us. They tried to convince us to change money with them offering us a lesser rate that what we later got at restaurants and even the airport in Bagan. They also told tried to push us to buy airline tickets through them when we clearly were wanting to explore other options.
Overall a disappointing experience.

Room tip: If you absolutely have to stay there, get a room with a bathroom and a/c.

We have been there in the beginning and in the end of our trip and we really enjoyed staying there. The best is defenetly the breakfast with tasty, fresh made, traditional food, warm and cold with bread and coffee and fresh juice and fruits.
The reception will always help you, they can tell you good places to eat and organize taxis.
The rooms are ok, some have a moscito net, some have Aircon, some have a window.

Good place to start your trip!

We spent two nights at room 502, $ 25 per night. Probably one of the better rooms if I read the other reviews but still shady. The shower was fine, warm water and quite spacious but no soap, toilet paper or towels provided. We had a window in our room, overlooking the buildings next door. Our AC was working as well. The bed linen looked clean but the pillows had no case and were filthy.

The "supposed to be" legendary breakfast was ok. The best was the juice and the banana toastie. The roof top terrasse is nice to relax, read a book or talk to fellow travellers.

The location is great though, central & charming. Good location to explore the city on foot.

The owner was friendly and helpful. But as in almost every other hotel in Burma, the bus tickets are more expensive than if you buy them at the station.
