Value for money at US$29.00 a night and only 5000kyat from airport. The restaurant is huge , on the top floor with glorious views but apart from breakfast, when it is really crowded, hardly anyone there at other times. They have a generator for when the power cuts out, which is very often , day & night. Area around the hotel is pretty ordinary but, I suppose, that says it all for this city. Just down the road, 120 metres, is a 7 market. Icy cold large Myanmar beer for 1400k against 2650k at hotel. The government puts on a good face at the International airport but the rest of the city shows the poverty that is there. The main streets are very clean but go down any side street outside the CBD and it is full of rubbish. The hotel is only 1500kyat from the main Pagoda or Scott markets. Changed money at the Markets for 940K to the US $1 against 880k at the hotel. .

The Panda is a hotel stuck in 1970, or at least the decor is, the service is actually pretty good, the staff are both professional and friendly. The room was huge by hotel standards, with a separate drawing room and bedroom, with attached bathroom with bath and shower. Stocked mini bar, resonable price, internet access downstairs, pretty clean.

The only real bad point is that the hotel is miles from the city, while you can walk to the station or the main attractions you are looking at a good 40 minutes, in 30c heat often raining. It's about $2 from the hotel to the station, though i paid $5 in the evening, my fault, didn't talk about the price first!!

Please note that everybody wants tipping and this can add up!

Visited Panda in July this year based on the review of this site. It is a nice hotel with friendly staff and clean room. For 35 dollars a night it's nice if you don't mind being away from downtown. You need to take taxi to go almost everywhere and until I stayed at a hotel downtown I thought Yangon was just unpaved road with no shops or restaurants.

On a recent trip to Myanmar I stayed at the Panda Hotel in Lanmadaw Township, Yangon. Upon my arrival at the international airport I was met by one of the very helpful and friendly staff. I had some business to take care of at the domestic terminal and the staff member was more than happy to oblige. On our way to the hotel, he gave me a brief description of the city and how to get to the major tourist sights.
When I arrived at the Panda, check-in was fast and courteous and I was introduced to a manageress of the hotel. The staff was incredibly friendly, polite and helpful.
The room was large, consisting of a sitting room with satelite television, a separate bedroom with king-sized bed and writing desk, and a large armoir. The bathroom was large and spotlessly clean and the hot water was scalding hot and very reliable.
Breakfast was included in the cost of the room ($32.00 per night) and consisted of a huge buffet of hot and cold items. I also dined at the restaurant in the evening. The menu included Myanmar and Chinese dishes, all reasonably priced and delicious.
The hotel is in a quiet residential area but within walking distance of both downtown and the Shwedagon Pagoda. Both are a bit of a hike but fine for walkers like myself. Taxis are available in front of the hotel.
One caveat regarding travel to Myanmar in general is to make sure you have crisp, new US bills (larger denominations are preferred). For the most part, only US currency is accepted by hotels and shops and bills are carefully scrutinized for any flaws. It is not unusual to be asked to produce something "better." This is not a criticism of the hotel, just something that will occur frequently to any visitor to Myanmar.
Overall, my stay at the Panda was thoroughly enjoyable and a great introduction to the culture and people of Myanmar. Great hotel and excellent staff!

We have visited Yangon several times. We always stay at the Panda. It is a good, solid hotel in the area. The rates are reasonable. And the staff is exceptional! It is not luxurious, but it is more than adquate. Breakfast is also served. The staff works hard to keep you happy.

It is located right in the heart of the city. The stay was affordable, cheap even. It was so easy to access everything since it's pratically downtown. The staff was helpful and very hospitable. I would highly recommend staying in this hotel for business or leisure. You will be certainly satisfied.
