“Excellent hotel to spend a few days”
Reviewed June 27, 2011

I stayed in the top floor suite so cannot comment on the quality of the other rooms. The suite is fantastic though with views of the Holden pagoda and city. The hotel is near china town so you can easily o down the road (perhaps by taxi) and find s ome good Chinese food. Internet is free n breakfast is quite good. The hotel is also guest friendly... ID needed. staff are friendly and the hotel will also change money shoul you need to do o. Rat was similar to the Scott Market

Rooms are spacious with high ceiling and in good overall condition, equipped with a hot shower, a minibar, working AC and a TV set (signal seems poor av watching CNN it cut out frequently). The bed is large but on the hard side and so are the pillows so perhaps not the most comfortable sleep.

WiFi Internet is provided free of charge in the lobby, but being Myanmar, many (most?) websites are blocked by the government and I was unable to even access my email.

While I had an overall good experience at this hotel, the downsides are as follows:
-poor TV signal
-hard beds and pillows
-hotel in generally worn down condition (rooms are good)
-Restaurant (and therefore breakfast) is awful (I could not eat)
-You are relatively far from "downtown", about 30-40 min walk (taxis are available).

a small and neat hotel, bit further from Shwedagon Pagoda, Panda is a good choice for people who strive for tranquility

not that Yngon is a noisy place, yet Panda is a bit inside in between some lanes and away from main road, and offers quite surroundings and yet a sneak peak of the Shwedagon.

The staff were very welcoming.in fact I had 3 staff to accompany me to my room and offer me a welcome drink and switched on the TV set and faucet for the tub, to ensure me and check that all was ok.....they didnt even accept a tip, so I only gave half dollar tip (Kyat 200) to the bell boy who look genuinely happy and always willing to help.

I took a stroll down the opposite side towards the MyanmarCentral Station, which was around 10 minutes walk...quite and peaceful with curious onlookers wondering why a foreginer would be around here...away from the noise and the Sule and Shwedagon Pagodas....

The breakfast was sumptious and meals were hot and tasty and as mentioned earlier, the staff were very very helpful and even offered me a comprehensive map of Yangon (which I did find rare to find around when I looked earlier)

try it for a day or two if you want peace and traiquility in an anyway tranquil city....

It's a good value of money especially if you book the Junior Suite. It's spacious, clean and the wood elements in the room gives a warm ambience. The staff are helpful but don't really engage in conversation with guests. The hotel breakfast is rather average but again, when you hear reviews about other hotels in the similar range, this one should be a decent choice especially when you look for space and cleanliness.

I went to Yangon with my wife and stayed in Hotel Panda for 7 days begining 30th September 2010. This was our first trip to Myanmar. It is an old hotel but very clean. We stayed in the executive room. It has a room with a King Size bed, TV and dressing table and a hall with sofa and a medium size fridge. The room is very spacious with all the facilites. The room and toilet are very clean. We experienced only 3 times power failure during our stay and it was immediately rectified. The reception staff and the housekeeping staff were excellent. They provided quick service and were very helpful when we needed information regarding going to places in Yangon. The exchange rate in the Hotel was 880 kyat to 930 kyat available in town for US$1. The difference is only 50 kyat (approx US$0.05). We changed all our US$ currency in the Hotel. The buffet breakfast was good mainly Asian style. The location of the Hotel is in the residential area. Opposite the Hotel there is a High School. You will notice kids playing football in the evening but we were not disturbed by any noise. It is very quiet at night. There is a mini-market nearby and a coffeeshop. Although the roads are uneven, they are good for walking and travelling by taxi. From the Hotel to the town by taxi takes approx. 5-10 mins. It cost 1500 kyat (US$1.50). When we walk from the Hotel to town in the evening, it takes us about 20mins.There is a new shopping centre in town. It is big and has branded clothings on sale. Our trip was to experience their culture, sightseeing and visiting the orphanages in Yangon. We were fortunate to visit a Christian Orphanage and a school in the monastery which we have decided to help. We will be going to Yangon again very soon. We are very focus to help the children and experience their culture and sightseeing. This is a wonderful country with wonderful people. In our next trip, we will defintely stay in Hotel Panda. We highly recomend those who are visiting Yangon to stay in this hotel.

Value for money at US$29.00 a night and only 5000kyat from airport. The restaurant is huge , on the top floor with glorious views but apart from breakfast, when it is really crowded, hardly anyone there at other times. They have a generator for when the power cuts out, which is very often , day & night. Area around the hotel is pretty ordinary but, I suppose, that says it all for this city. Just down the road, 120 metres, is a 7 market. Icy cold large Myanmar beer for 1400k against 2650k at hotel. The government puts on a good face at the International airport but the rest of the city shows the poverty that is there. The main streets are very clean but go down any side street outside the CBD and it is full of rubbish. The hotel is only 1500kyat from the main Pagoda or Scott markets. Changed money at the Markets for 940K to the US $1 against 880k at the hotel. .

The Panda is a hotel stuck in 1970, or at least the decor is, the service is actually pretty good, the staff are both professional and friendly. The room was huge by hotel standards, with a separate drawing room and bedroom, with attached bathroom with bath and shower. Stocked mini bar, resonable price, internet access downstairs, pretty clean.

The only real bad point is that the hotel is miles from the city, while you can walk to the station or the main attractions you are looking at a good 40 minutes, in 30c heat often raining. It's about $2 from the hotel to the station, though i paid $5 in the evening, my fault, didn't talk about the price first!!

Please note that everybody wants tipping and this can add up!
