“Good for the price + amazing view”
Reviewed November 24, 2012

I spent 2 nights in this hotel. Yes, its old, more than 20 years old, but i get newly renovated room with flat TV, 2 huge beds and nice Pagoda view on 9 floor. Check my pictures. Room is very clean but corridors not, empty bottles and used napkins on the floor. You do not need to take a taxi to visit pagoda, its just 10 min walk up hill and you are there. Turn to the left, pass near by gas station, cross the road and go up. I entered from North gate at 7 p.m and payed nothing for entrance, just small tips for carying my shoes. Please do not have dinner at the restaurant, fresh papaya juice was dilute with tap water and burger was uncooked. In general i like this hotel, like it very much. Hope you will make the right choice. Have a great time in Yangon!

Room Tip: Pagoda view room is great!

Yes, this hotel is very close to the famous Shwedagon Pagoda. If you do not have a room with a view you can go out onto the fire escape and see it, it is a nice view.

My recommendation, though, is to stay somewhere else and pay the small price for a taxi to visit the Shwedagon. The hotel's proximity to the pagoda is not enough to outweigh the list of negative things about this hotel. If you only require a bed to sleep in and some water to bathe with, then fine, this place will do. If you want anything more, even just a clean towel to wipe yourself with, I would say you should go elsewhere.

The hotel is dirty. The rooms are large but in an awkward way, minimal furniture of poor quality and lots of dirty wood flooring showing. The entire place needs to be painted, there are scuffs and holes in the walls everywhere. The staff do not seem to care and will leave dirty linens in the hallways for as long as the please. In the dining area there are swivel plastic chairs like you would find in a fast food chain and everything looks grim. The breakfast options are standard but can look, and taste, like they have been sitting out for an unhealthy length of time. Internet is not quite an option. They claim to have it but they will charge you, it is slow, and it is only available in the lobby. The lobby, and the stern looking businessmen who always seem to be there, make the use of internet not worth it.

Across the street and on the streets around the hotel are places where you can get beer for cheap. A few Myanmar beers make this place seem like a somewhat decent place to spend a night but in the morning things are bleak.

And some of the hotel rooms have direct view of the Paya which is splendid at night time when seen from the hotel window (see my youtube videos on this. Search Youtube using the words TravellerJ Yuzana hotel room). The hotel is quite old and one can only try to imagine the days of its former glory. Yet the room prices are VERY reasonable, the staff service is very good , the breakfast buffet is plentiful and well prepared and I would consider it , overall , as excellent value for money

Room Tip: This is a MUST. Try at all cost to get a room with a view at the Shwedagon pagoda and preferably abo...

Don't be deceived by Myanmar's chepness: 23 dollars for deluxe room is too little for something decent even in Yangon. Yes the room is quite big and the Shwedagon view is to die for (if your are lucky to get a direct view which is not guaranteed). But it is really dirty, with layers of dust even in breakfast room. And your Shwedagon view is spoiled by dirty windows and walls in view.
Breakfast is frugal, and lots of other small faults will spoil your stay here: for example, it's a challenge to get your boiled water or an electric changer (and you have absolutely no problems with your european-type devices in other places all over the country).
Staff is ok and will try to make your stay better. The exchange rate is also ok.
Wireless is very slow and is not free. The location isn't good (except for the view)% you need 15 to 30 minutes to get to Shwedagon by foot (or 10 minutes by taxi), and 10-12 minutes by tai to the city center.

I selected this hotel for the Shwedagon pagoda night view but from other hotels in Yangon, you can do it as well. Only one good point maybe that this hotel is close to the pagoda maybe 15-20 minutes on foot but the thing is foreigners without any help how to get there would never reach there. I could not do that and took a taxi at later convenience. However the accommodation is so so and worth the money so if you are not sticking to the closest view, it is quite all right to stay there..Early morning breakfast box was poor i.e. one boiled egg, tiny pieces of sausage, a monkey banana and a piece of bread.

Room Tip: Pagoda view would be better.

We were on our way to Bagan but had to stay overnight in Yangon to catch our flight. We chose Yuzana only because it has a commanding view of the Shwedagon Temple Complex - and that was exactly what was the only good thing about this hotel.

If you have seen the horror movie "Echo", Yuzana Hotel could have been the perfect setting. Old, dimly-lit, peeling coats of paint, tattered carpet ... crawling insects!!! We only stayed for 8 hours - and hardly slept at all. The air conditioning was terrible - making all those funny noises. Swatted TWO flying cockroaches too.

We should have spent the 8 hours in the airport waiting for our flight to Bagan - and saved US$60!

The staff were fine, especially the restaurant staff. However, the rooms are old, but the toilet/bath was bad. The tub looks like a scene from Psycho, paint is peeling and some of the sink looked like it wasn't installed properly. When we checked in, we had to look for a staff on the floor to fix our lights.

The best thing about this hotel is that it is near Shwedagon Pagoda and our room have great views.

The restaurant menu is horrible which mostly have Chinese. We had sweet and sour pork because that's the only thing that was decent even though it was too oily. Like I said, the best thing is the service, I was taken care of. It's sad that that hotel is just bad.
