The Alfa caters to both business people and tourists. It is pretty low on charm, but if you are looking for a comfortable place to stay at a reasonable price ($80 in high season), this is a good choice. The rooms are small, but have very comfortable beds and pretty good bathrooms. The air conditioning is good and depending on the room there are good city views. The location is excellent: you can walk to the Shwedegon and the market. It's close to the train and bus stations and the Posadon pier is a 30 minute walk. The staff is very friendly and really wants to help. The porter who brought our bags to the taxi when we were leaving reminded me to ask the price to the airport before getting in the taxi ($10). The English level is not particularly good, but if you are patient they will get answers to your questions.
The included breakfast is first rate, particularly the Shan noodle soup. In short, this is a good value for a refuge after spending a hot day walking the city.
There are good and interesting restaurants within a short walk.More
