cruising down the inle lake in the morning after breakfast is pure bliss...as the fishermen cast their nets into the water and boats carrying loads of fresh produce like tomatoes whizz past you, you feel at peace. The sun slowly climbs up midsky and soon you are lulled into a sleep...

Definitely worth a visit to feel the charm of Myanmar :)

Just returned from an 'Intrepid' tour of Myanmar. We started in Yangon, visited Bagan, Kalaw and Inlay lake. The tour also included two days on the the Ayeyarwady River between Bagan and Mandalay. This river trip was most relaxing, well looked after by the boat crew, and sleeping on deck under the stars is a memory to treasure.
General impressions of Myanmar were very positive. In the areas we visited there were little signs of the poverty generally associated with many countries in Asia and the people were extreamly welcoming and friendly. Bagan was fantastic and the sight of the thousands of Stupas rising out of the bush at sunset was unforgetable. Mount Pola was another high in all senses.
Mandalay was hectic and we were happy to tavel on to Kalaw. This is an old Colonial Hill Station with lots of character. We even found the old park with the remains of a crazy golf course. Lots of colonial architecture and such a calm atmosphere! Treking around here is a must as the hill villages are wonderful.
Inlay lake was fun. Don't believe in the tales of the floating market as this has died away but a trip round in the long tailed boats is a must even though it is a bit of a 'shopping experiance'.
All in all Myanmar is a great place to visit and go soon before the five star tours get organised and starbucks arrive.
Steve.
P.S. For Beekeepers the sight of hundreds of apiaries moved into the sesame fields was amazing.

I had a twelve days cruise with my father. It was rainy season, the only time of the year when it is possible to travel on most of the river. No words to describe it: a real life experience.
