This hotel is owned by an Australian group situated in Melbourne & clearly reflects their operational characteristics. The multi story building contains many well appointed comfortable suites every one of which boasts harbour views.

The pool is well laid out with the surrounds well equipped for relaxation & a well stocked bar. The hotel has access to island activities that lend more to the younger set with snorkeling, scuba diving & para sailing. There is also sunset cruises & ferry ti Iririki Island resort.

The hotel is conveniently located within the city precincts & has casino facilities on the ground floor & slots in the basement. They are not generous! The other down side is the very unfavourable exchange rate rendering Vanuatu expensive. Attractions such as round island & secret gardens is simply a waste of time & money as their value is over exaggerated!

Room Tip: Ask for a room from 2nd floor upwards te ensure a nice view

Happy Hour at the Grand is our favourite place to go. The chardonnay is consistantly good, rather than the gut rot of some other places. We go as often as we can, and never regret it. I always however, have a short natter to the gentleman upstairs before stepping inside the buiding, asking for no earthquake during the 2 hours we are there. So far, so good, except for a small 4.2, on one occassion.
One area that is frustrating, is large groups of greedy people scoffing into the Hor D'oeuvre's, and leaving the plate empty, several times over. It's time the waitress/waiter , told them to back off, (management should be encouraging this) so other people can try a morsel or two.

We were a little concerned that this hotel would lack character. We were happily proven wrong. The hotel is in a very central location in Port Villa. Smallish but nice rooms with all balconys having a great view of the harbour and beautiful sunsets.
Lunch at the resort was approx A$13 and dinner approx A$20. We had dinner several times at the resort and all of the meals were very nice. The pool was nice without being spectacular and poolside had plenty of shade and some very comfortable sun lounges.
The casino section is small and had Australian style poker machines and a couple of blackjack and roulette tables. Beware that they allow smoking in the casino and the it seems that the local Chinese residents love a smoke while they have a punt.
Directly across the road is a bar called the Brewery and they have all the big Australian sports on (NRL, Union & AFL)
Finally, guests have access to free wi-fi and the hotel has a friendly in house tourist booking service which can answer a lot of questions regarding local bus/taxi prices.

Room Tip: From what we could see, ALL rooms face the harbour and Iririki Island. Good views for everyone

This hotel was actually my second choice but ended up being the best place to be when we arrived in Port Vila. A lovely hotel with beautiful views from every room of the ocean and the pool and easy to chat with the other residents on their balcony. Other restaurants and shops were outside the door and the staff were so wonderfully friendly and helpful. Breakfast was great and varied and other meals beautifully prepared and served. We felt very at home in this lovely place and will be happy to return there. The only minus during the stay was the hotel running out of coffee satchels in the rooms and leaving only decaf coffee. We could also only seem to get wi-fi in the public areas of the hotel but this could have been me. The fresh food markets were a stroll away where we could buy fresh fruit and a cheap nutritious meal if we wanted it. Great wine was available from Cellars across the road very cheaply - if I had known I certainly wouldn't have lugged my own across the ocean like I did. The pool bar served excellent meals and cocktails and coffee for reasonable prices.
Try the local Round Vanuatu Tours which is the first tour you come to on your left when you stroll from the hotel to the shops. They were very informative on their tour, served beautiful fruit at the Blue lagoon and a lovely lunch at the beach. We came away feeling we had received a great insight into the people & situation in Vanuatu.
Also the Secret Garden Island Feast was excellent value with food cooked traditionally and a great show and dancing with everyone participating.
The Melanesian Hotel also had a great dinner and show the next night which was very reasonably priced and had the best Lap Lap that I had tasted on the island. It lacked the audience participation but was still great.
The Summit gardens should not be missed. This also was very informative as well as just gorgeous with fabulous views over the harbour.
Mele Cascade was also wonderful. Make sure you go into the little cave behind the waterfall. I did have to leave my elderly mum half way though and finished the trek up on my own. It wasn't too bad once you got passed the first big staircase. However, you did need to exercise a little caution though but the reward going up there was worth it.
Buses and taxis needed to be negotiated. Find out from the hotel staff what price you should be paying before negotiating. There is the Mele Bay Express which charges approximately $10 for the day going to the main attractions.

Room Tip: As all rooms face the water, I think you would get a good nights sleep wherever you were. I did read...

WOW - what a little gem in the centre of town. A last minute long weekend trip to paradise. Nice rooms; small but adequate restaurant which offers enough variety and quality food at cheap prices all with happy smiling staff. Good to see management helping and you could see the staff were proNF and happy (un like another resort on Erakor Lagoon we visited for lunch on Saturday). Great pub across the road as well that has crisp cold cider (most of the time) good food and sports galore. Apparently they will have kebabs available next week, we will have to come back to try them. Anyone looking for a HOTEL to stay at in Port Vila can't go past the Grand.

Stayed 6 nights. Service was excellent, restaurant had small but well done menu at great prices...very good value food. Rooms spotless and airy, all with views of the harbour although we had a panorama suite with 180 degree views which was fantastic.

We've stayed all over the Pacfic and this was one of the most consistently good hotels we've been to.

Stayed here for 6 nights, and very much enjoyed my stay. The location is hard to beat - close to all the action. Stunning views of the harbour although, because my room was on the first floor, the view from the private balcony wasn't as good as those higher up. Mind you, I got such a reasonable rate for the room (a special deal) that it's hard to complain about that! Watching the sunset from the cocktail bar on the top (6th) floor each evening was a delight. The pool area is also a great place to while away the hours.
My room was very clean. Great king size bed, separate bath and shower. The hotel offers 8 hours of free WiFi access, which was a huge plus during my visit.
The staff were very professional and friendly, and always able to answer questions and help out. While I tried eating at other restaurants in town, I found myself increasingly eating dinner at the hotel because it was good value and of a high quality.
The downsides were very minor: there was a bit of confusion surrounding my transfers to/from the airport to the hotel (but everything worked out in the end), and the folder in the rooms describing all the features of the hotel is in need of an update.
Nevertheless, I will not hesitate to stay at the Grand again during my next visit.

Room Tip: The views from the first floor rooms are slightly obscured - but still good.
