Recommended length of visit: 2-3 hours
Owner description: Mele Cascades Waterfalls is one of Efate's most popular natural attractions. Only 20 minutes drive out of town, a visit can be completed in just over two hours. There are bathroom facilities available , sitting area, a small cafe and bar on site for purchase of food and drinks. The area is local owned and run by locals. Revenue generated help pay wages for local employees, maintenance and upkeep of the area, community development for surrounding villages and sponsorship of social activities, most especially soccer development programs for youth. Note: Efate is currently experiencing severe El Nino and the once picturesque attraction has very low water levels. This is also causing drastic water supply shortage to villages and its people. To close the business would mean loss of income for many.

Great visiting the Mele Cascades. Beautiful walk to the top and so wonderful to see nature at her best. The walk is suitable for those with low levels of fitness, however would be a struggle for anyone with mobility issues.

I would avoid it on a cruise ship day, but if you can get there any other time, it will feel like you have the place to yourself.!

“Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous!”

Loved Cascades. Well worth the trek up to the top for a refreshing swim in the pools. Since our first visit in 2007, they have upgraded parts of the track and built an area where you can stash your bags and sit to get changed - in the open though, no change rooms.

Parts of the track are still pretty "rustic" and there are water crossings so be prepared to get your feet wet!

“Worth the walk”

Firstly the walk isn't that bad but you should have reef shoes or other nonslip soles as it can be mossy or muddy and you do need to hold on to a rope in some parts. The water was pounding when we were there and it was nice to have a rewarding dip after making it to the top. There is no need for a tour guide as it is all pretty straight forward once you are on the trail. Good facilities and nice gardens for before and after but a warning that the food service at the cafe was bad, we waited about 70 mins for a pizza and hot chips so be careful if you have to catch a bus.

“A great swimm”

Don't bother if a cruise ship is in, Evergreen tours do fantastic deals. Taxis will ask for 6000vt return from Port villa. You can purchase a beer before you start the walk, approx 10-15mins.
