Owner description: Mele Cascades Waterfalls is one of Efate's most popular natural attractions. Only 20 minutes drive out of town, a visit can be completed in just over two hours. There are bathroom facilities available , sitting area, a small cafe and bar on site for purchase of food and drinks. The area is local owned and run by locals. Revenue generated help pay wages for local employees, maintenance and upkeep of the area, community development for surrounding villages and sponsorship of social activities, most especially soccer development programs for youth. Note: Efate is currently experiencing severe El Nino and the once picturesque attraction has very low water levels. This is also causing drastic water supply shortage to villages and its people. To close the business would mean loss of income for many.

You need sand shoes or something similar that will not slip on wet rocks, otherwise bare feet,as you will get wet. Also take your bathing gear.
Its a good uphill walk but not too demanding, a reasonable level of fitness would be helpful.
There are ropes near the top to help you negotiate your way around the rocks to get to the plunge pool.
Its nice and cool in the water as you look up and see the waterfall.
There is a viewing area apparently but we missed it,will do it next time!
Back at the bottom there are a couple of bars which is great if you fancy a cold beer after your walk.

Well worth visiting - best way to get there is to talk to taxi & bus drivers about the tours they offer and go with best price. The pools are fantastic to have a swim in. Don't go on a cruise ship day.

The cascades were beautiful, however on the day we visited, a cruise ship was in town, so there were many people.

Great guides and the BBQ lunch was terrific. The water at the water falls was cool and very refreshing.

We went there as part of a mini tour which included the Cultural Village. By the time we got there we were all bloody hot (A/C on the bust was iffy).
The walk up to the cascades wasn't as bad as some people warned us about. maybe some people just don't want to walk at all. Quite pretty when you get there and the pools, there's a few to choose from, are extremely refreshing. A cafe back at the bottom for some fruit and drinks.
A nice half day out.

Thank Nick P
