“Great stay for the price”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 9, 2013

We have just had two weeks at the Blue Pango my wife and I and our 10 year old son.We went to Vanuatu to relax and give our boy a taste of island life, will we scored a 10 in both The island kids next door played with our son from day light to dark great to see kids playing without the playstation or TV and we just kicked back. Town is 5 mins by bus or 45 min walk Local produce is good and cheap market for fruit and vegie and the number 2 bon marchea for meat and beer wine.
Soloman the owner is a top man very helpful and will sort out any issuses that may come up
The rooms are clean and serviced everyday. We self catered most nights and with the organic beef, fish and fresh produce and Breakfast cost $4 for one of the best fruit salad I have ever made you would be mad not tocook in or use the barbque Hired a car for two days best way to see the island tours can get expensive.
Blue pango motel is great for a family on a budget we all had a great holiday and meet some interesting people Spoke to people in the big resorts they didnt get to meet the local folk like we did which was a big part of making our holiday so good. If the world could be half as happy as these people man we would have a happy Earth.

Room Tip: they are all good a/c was good on a couple of the hot nights

After I paid for my 3 nights dorm, I was taken to the room. I found two dead cockroaches on the bathroom floor and few dirty hair. The place looked filthy. That was enough for me to get out there asap. I could do basic but couldn't do dirty and filthy. The kitchen was outside/open and the plates and utensils were not in the cupboard. They were covered by bubble plastic wrap on top. I had a warning sign as soon as I saw "For Sale" sign on the road. Maybe the state of the place was far better when these positive feedback were made and the owners have lost their interest in the business since? I've read all the feedback again, but I couldn't figure out why these ppl who gave the positive f/back and they said the place was "excellent." If you are like me, hygiene is important to you, this place is not for you. FYI, I'm not that fussy usually, but still this place was too dirty for me. I didn't get the refund either. If you have booked this place, inspect before you pay.

Travelled on New Years Day 2012 to Vanuatu, Booked a cheapie place as it was just my friend and myself with no kids to please.

I would describe Blue Pango as a "would be, if I could be place", its got the location/ positon, the atmosphere but the rooms need a little maintenance. Don;t get me wrong from that description, they were liveable and certainly useable, just maintenance is not high on the owners priority.

Blue Pango is situated right on the water, hammocks swing in the trees on the waters edge which keeps you cool and relaxed and next to it a village that has the warmest most beautiful people, especially the kids.

The pool is like you backyard pool but hey it keeps you refreshed, which is what you need as the weather was very hot. It has a room full of kitchenware that you can help yourself to, towels , pillows, sheets etc.... We cooked for ourselves in our room and ate out on our verandah every night. We did a shop at the local supermarket ( big one just out of town) and self catered, which was fine as Blue Pango is defineately out of town and the cost of a trip each way would add up.

The highlight of our trip and a definite added bonus was the arrival of 30 Korean University Students ( guests of the Korean owner Mr Solomon) They were learning to be elementary teachers so they had come over to continue their studies in vacation time and teach the village kids who cannot afford to go to school. These students were amazing, they were up at 5.30am every morning doing there exercise and having breakfast, they they would go off and pick up the village kids along the way and teach they all day. Back at about 5.00pm where they would all cook there dinner ( smells were amazing) then it was back to planning the lessons for the next day. they retired at 11.00pm. Dedication plus. During the evening the kids from the vllage next door would come over and join in their games and lessons, playing their musical instruments and singing wonderful songs. You may think that would be annoying while your on holidays but it was a great atmosphere and amazing to see native village kids interact.

We met other intersting people from Noumea, Sydney, Melbourne and Korea. Every body was friendly and happy with their stay.

I would recommend Blue Pango to pople who are not expecting much, as places are always what you make of them and how you except what is there. You will get to meet the locals first hand at this place as every day they come to the fence to chat and sing. They play in the water and teach each other to surf and fish. Its great to watch.

Give Blue Pango a go as it is an experience.

There is not Fitness Centre or Restaurant.

There are no eating places in the near vicinity, thats why we opted to buy up at the supermarket and cook our own. ( please note the the butcher is only open at the supermarket at certain times of the day, so check this out as you may get there and it is closed, same as the alcohol section),

Its not hard to get a bus into town, just a short walk up the driveay to the road into town ( you wouldn't walk into town it;s too far and hot.

Overall I liked Blue Pango and the time we experienced there.

No it is not Breakas nor Holiday inn but does not pretend to be. All rooms face the sea and the pool.Rooms are basic but a reasonable size bed for 2. Plenty of utensils, crockery and cutlery for self cooking. The grocery at the top of the lane is poorly stocked but does tasty food to eat in or take away. Nice fresh bread daily. Buses run past on main road and never waited more than a few minutes. Some brought us to the door. was also lucky to be there with a great group of people. If you have problems just ask Solomon who will do his best to help. The cleaning lady needs pushing and does bare minimum. We would definitely recommend this place and would stay again. You can get in the water if you want but wear foot covering although the locals next door manage without. pool is perfectly adequate.

Tired but clean accommodation. Spent 8 nights there and most of the time travelled around the island. Blue Pango is on the beach but you can not swim there. Huge waves. Corals. Pool very small. Bus to town 150vt. Owners did not speak good English but were friendly and helpful!

We were looking for some budget accommodation in Port Vila and this suited. Right by the beach and only a trip bus ride into town. If you would like a bit of five star treatment, just head next door to Breakas and chill out on their beach.

If you are heading here from the airport, DO NOT catch a taxi, it is a waste of $$, it will cost you 3000vatu, where as a bus will cost you 150 vatu per person. The buses in Port Vila are more like shuttles.

From the airport, looking for a van with a 'B' on the license plate (ones with T's are taxis and will cost you a lot more). The bus may take a little longer but you will get to have a little tour before you get to Pango.

Myself and my girlfriend stayed at Blue Pango for 3 nights in one of their double self contained rooms and thought it was a nice little place.
We arrived at the airport and opted for the easiest option of a taxi which cost 3000V but we were told that you could maybe catch a local bus there for a third of the price or less even. The place itself was easily found on this occasion but with other bus drivers we had over the next few days it was a bit more difficult so it would be advisable to know the address or carry it with you.
The accommodation was nice and comfortable and the fans in the room were effective for keeping you cool of a night. The cooking facilities are also pretty good, you get a double hob top and they have a room full of utensils and cooking equipment for you to use.
There is a swimming pool on site which is handy considering you'd maybe have to walk out quite far to swim in the sea as its quite rocky and there's plenty of grassy area to laze in to make up for the lack of beach.
To get to town from Blue Pango is only 150V per person even though the drivers will most likely try charge you more if you don't know this price already. Alternatively you could walk, we did it the one day and it only took us 30mins max.
If your not too bothered about being out of town and are looking for somewhere cheap then this will do the job.
