“Fantasy Island?”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 4, 2008

We have just returned from 14 days at Benjor and agree wholeheartedly with other reviewers in that the resort is all as described and the staff and management are also very helpful and friendly.
The staff also made a very special effort in preparing a wedding for a couple from a cruise ship whilst we were there with the most beautiful floral displays.
Having said that we were very disappointed that the beach was definitely not suitable for snorkelling as it was just too dangerous to reach the coral shelf from the beach at Benjor.
However as a tip for others that may be planning on staying at Benjor we were incredibly lucky to discover that just 10 minutes easy walk further (west) along the road is Tara Beach Resort. There we found a gem in Christine who took us down to the little jetty where they regularly feed the beautiful tropical fish. In addition there was safe access to the coral where we snorkelled at every opportunity. All the staff (owned and operated by locals) at Tara were brilliant and after the swim we had refreshments overlooking the beach and the crazy parrot fish that feed in very close to the shore. IT IS AN ABSOLUTE MUST SEE!!!
Another highlight was an eccentric expat who arrived at Benjor for breakfast/lunch/dinner in his helicopter daily. It seemed to be very popular with the many local ex-pats who reside nearby.
If you are looking for a good work-out a trek to the top of Sandlewood Estate (about 400 feet high, up a winding track)overlooking Benjor will reward you with breathtaking views to Vila.
Benjor's location is a little too isolated and the access road is atrocious.
The staff also arrange transport and tours. We can recommend Atmosphere tours around Efate (cost approx $80.00 pp) and the Coongoola cruise which includes a visit to Moso Island (cost approx $100.00pp).
Added to the cost are the meals which (for mains) are about $25.00 - $30.00 each .
The bus to Vila is about $4.50 per person each way.
There are TV's in the rooms but you will need to also add an additional $3.50 to the cost of hiring DVD's as they are not connected to free to air TV.
All prices are approximate and quoted in Australian dollars at the time of writing.
They also have a collection a some very good books in their library which are free to read.
It is also imperative that you bring very good walking shoes as the little coral paths are very uneven and the surrounding roads very rough.
We were also fortunate to meet the new managers who were just taking over and as I said to Eva and Kevin we wish them well.

Nice relaxful location, by the beach with sea views from the swimming pool. Felt welcome from arrival with the Managers even lending us some Vatu to catch the bus to town in the morning(15 minute senic ride). Snorkelling was interesting with coral and bright fish ,even clown fish, straight off the beach accessable at any tide. You can walk around the roads safely and it is aprox 40 minutes walk to the must see Cascade waterfalls(or 8 mins via bus) . We enjoyed this location much more than staying in the centre of town and the Benjor restaurant was our favourite with a good menu, excellent food especially the veal and chocolate souflee. Keep up the good work Jane & Dave(Managers)

I have recently returned home after spending a blissful week at Benjor, and I cannot speak highly enough of the resort. The staff were fantastic and nothing was too much trouble for them. Jane and Dave (managers) were friendly and approachable and between them have a wealth of knowledge about things to do and see while in Vanuatu. The food is divine and after trying pretty much everything on the menu, there was not one meal that was just average, it was all outstanding!
The accomodation was clean and spacious, and yes it is as it looks on the website. The villas are located with people's privacy in mind so at no time were we feeling crowded.
The fact that the property is located about 15mins from town is one of the reasons we chose to stay there. The peaceful seclusion of the resort is even more evident after a trip to town (which can be easily arranged by staff to get a bus there).
As you can see, I had a great time and cannot fault anything.
And a special thanks to Jane and Dave, the chats and advice were greatly appreciated and we hope to see you next year.

Vanuatu. Benjor Beach Club My Husband ,And Friends spent Ten days at Benjor. We were overwhelmed at the great Hospitality of Jane and Dave and there staff. Nothing was any trouble. Even to help four mad Kiwi's have a Barbacue in the rain. The people are so nice and so abliging. And everything is always done with a big smile. I am sure we will be going back. The swimming, the food. The Chefs are incredible. So yes I would certainly reccomend it to anyone. This comment is from a very happy Traveller.

WOW... this stay was one of the best stays i have had in my life...The food was to die for, the staff where brilliant (especially morsen & fred) and the rooms were spacious, comfortable and had the calm, soft, cool and refressing sea breeze that makes it such a good place to relax.

The beaches where beautiful and the coral was spectacular and the owners kids showed me the clown fish and a lobster, it was amazing!!! The pool was also equally stunning with a infinite view to the horizon and of port vila harbour.

This place is good value for money and well worth going to.

We have just returned from a wonderful ten days at Benjor. It is in a class of its own - a beautiful location, delicious meals and the incredible staff who looked after us so well. We were fortunate to meet Miranda and Greg, the owners, and Jane and David, the managers, who made us feel so special and part of the Benjor family.

Benjor is far enough out of Port Vila to be tranquil and relaxing and yet close enough to visit Vila and many other beautiful attractions Vanuatu has to offer visitors. David and Jane will point you in the right direction for tours or places to visit.

We loved our ocean villa, being able to look into a garden courtyard from the bathroom, having coffee or a glass of wine on our deck looking at the ocean and the lovely landscaped gardens and walking paths. Zac and Frenchie, the resident dogs are gorgeous and often went for a walk with us.

When State of Origin 2 was televised, the bar was decorated in Qld and NSW colours and balloons and there were even pies with gravy and chips. Only problem was that 90% of people there were Qld supporters and we were barracking for NSW. It was a great fun night.

To Fred, Mawson, Kela, Nolene and Sandrene, thank you all so much for looking after us so well. Be sure to have Fred's big Island Affair cocktail for 2 or 3 or 4. David also mixes great cocktails.

We fell in love with Vanuatu and its beautiful, happy people and we are already planning our next holiday at Benjor. We cannot wait to go back.
