We have just returned from staying in the premier lagoon room view for a week. Very comfortable, spacious and light with windows 2 sides. You wake to a charming and intimate lagoon view. The large deck looks across the delightful restaurant to the lagoon in one direction and up the lagoon in the other. The other lagoon view room would mostly look through the restaurant to the lagoon. The garden bungalows are charming and probably even more spacious inside - but we preferred the lagoon rather than garden views and also the privacy and light.
Spotlessly clean. Minor problems with water pressure when others are using water. But you just adapt your timing and relax into island living. Delightful, friendly staff and Tracy is an excellent, resident manager who can inform you about anything you need to or might want to do. Her family has owned the property for 25 years and the chef has been there for 20 years. The property is well maintained and the staff are happy.
The frequent buses that will literally take you anywhere you want to go within an 8 or so km radius of Port Vila do and will stop right outside Vila Chaumieres. We never waited more than 3 minutes and during the day every driver knew where Vila Chaumieres was (about a 10 minute drive from town). At night you sometimes needed to direct them to "past the university on the round island road". 150 vatu flat rate for effectively a collective taxi - if only buses worked like that in Sydney.
Sitting by the lagoon watching the fish and countng the extraordinary coloured starfish was a delghtful place for breakfast. The restaurant is probably the best in Port Vila and you can't beat the location but as it's fully licensed it's also one iof the most expensive. We'd also recommend Cafe du Village for its location, food and charming staff and it is BYO (reasonable corkage charge) as well as licensed. The French-influenced food is almost always excellent in Port Vila but we would give Alyses a miss. Overall you get great food at slightly better than Sydney prices. However, apart from Vila Chaumieres, prices for accommodation are undeservedly higher than Sydney or equivalent tropical parts of Australia and therefore comparatively poor value.
We had some lazy afternoons at Vila Chaumieres lolling about on our balcony after an Au Bon Marche (at Nambatu) bought pate and brie lunch and swimming in the lagoon.

Travelers, passing through Port Vila and looking for a unique place to stay, should defiantly try Villa Chaumieres.
The service, the location right at the lagoon and the amazing food provided through their restaurant impressed us. We felt extremely comfortable and looked after. We hope that we will be enjoying the hospitality sometime in the future again. Until then, we wish the whole team all the best and are grateful for making our stay unforgettable.

With kind regards,
Dietrich,Gabriele and Stephanie Zoll, Berlin

Vila Chaumieres, restaurant is the perfect location for a wonderful dining experience.
We were served by Elise who greeted us pleasantly and then was most obliging with any requests, the venue is perfect also.On arrival one walks through a gently lit garden area until you arrive at the dock side restaurant.over looking,in fact right on the Lagoon.Soft lighting and gently lapping water and wonderful food makes for the perfect night out.All the taxi and bus drivers know the location and I would bet that this would be one of the special moments of your Vanuatu experience

We decided to travel to the beautiful lands of Vanuatu for our first ever holiday, and were unaware of what to expect or what we would encounter when we arrived.

Whilst researching places to stay and activities, Vila Chaumieres came up on lastminute.com and I thought I would give them a call to ask some questions. Tracy (manager) was more than willing to help, and even organised transfers for us from the airport to the resort.

Upon arrival at Port Vila, we were greeted by a friendly driver for Melanesian Tours to take us back to Vila Chaumieres and the process was easy and fuss free, Tracy organised this for us and it made an easy transition from a hot and crowded airport to a lovely resort. From the moment we arrived at Vila Chaumieres, Tracy, Alec, Jen and Elise were very helpful and made our stay much more enjoyable; at times it seemed they enjoyed having us there more than we enjoyed staying there. The staff were always on hand to assist with bookings for day activities or night time dinner reservations for other restaurants (which surprised us as you would think they would only want you to eat there), but the staff just want you to experience all that you can of Vanuatu and have the best time possible.

We were pleased with the service from Vila Chaumieres, and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. I think the stand out part of our holiday was the food at Vila Chaumieres. We tried almost every restaurant / cafe in Port Vila during our stay (we are real foodies and we like variety) and found that none of the food even compared to what we had at Vila Chaumieres. Samson would have to be in the running for the best chef award this year, as the steak and the famous Coconut Crab (you must try this, its something we will be back for) were higlights of our trip (as I mentioned, we are real foodies). The Choc mousse and cocktails (Colada Chaumieres) were also outstanding.

The staff were more than willing to assist and please, and the service was great. We could not fault them, and had no issues at all during our stay there. The rooms were always cleaned every morning, and fresh flowers were placed in the room every day or two which was a lovely touch.

The breakfast service was great.... just clarifying this, as they may have improved since previous reviews. My partner and I found the fruit, juice and bread to be delicious and looked forward to this fruit feast every morning, as it was a great start to the day.

Thankyou so much to all the staff for making our stay such a pleasurable one, your service and assistance with info made our stay easier and much more enjoyable, as your advice gave us more chance to expereince more of beautiful Vanuatu. Will be in touch in 12 months to come back.

Kellie & Steve :-)

We enjoyed the best food in Vanuatu & the most romantic dinner of our honeymoon at Vila Chaumieres. Gilbert, the owner, was a wonderfully gracious host. We stayed in the cosy room right above the restaurant with a gorgeous view over the lagoon for the last night of our honeymoon. In Port Vila, there is a raft of very overpriced, large, characterless resorts. This is the antithesis. The accommodations are a great value &, of course, the food as I already mentioned is amazing. It is just a bit out of town situated right on a lagoon which makes is very peaceful. It is easy to hop on one of the frequent public buses to get into town. The image is taken at sunset from the balcony of our room. We only wish we could have stayed longer & enjoyed more of your incredible food & the tranquility of staying right on the lagoon. Thank you for everything Gilbert!
